Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) review

6.7/10 AVG.

Informr score
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) currently has an Informr score of 6.7 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 19 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

Samsung has definitely established itself as a great name in the world of Android, so you can expect to hear plenty of good stuff about its Galaxy range of tablets. Among these is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) Wi-Fi, a non-3G device that comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich installed right out of the box. In terms of build quality and overall design, it may not be exceptional, but that doesn’t mean it lacks features that would make it very attractive for those looking to buy a new tablet computer.

For starters, there’s a 1GHz dual-core processor onboard along with 1GB of RAM, which should allow users to breeze through most apps in Android quite easily. Other niceties include dual cameras, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS, microUSB connectivity, support for microSD card slots, and a 7000 mAh battery. The bit about the battery is quite good, as many other tablets in the market come with batteries that have much lower capacity.

With the combination of hardware and software features that it has, it’s easy to see how this tablet deserves some consideration. However, it should be noted that since connecting to the Internet is only possible through Wi-Fi, users who aim to be online all the time will be severely limited. For those who are really serious about always-on connectivity, there’s always the 3G version.

What the Critics Are Saying...

The Inquirer

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a decent tablet for those looking for an affordable Android device. There's a decent screen, it has intuitive software, and although it's not the nippiest tablet available on the market, this shouldn't be a problem for the average consumer. However, this is by no mea...

A year ago we liked the Tab 10.1, and for the second generation the hardware specs remain broadly the same, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has a much better operating system. All for £100 cheaper than it was. We love the bright screen, and adding SD support and 1080p video capture are both improv...

- Matt Ega, Tech Advisor

There's no doubt at all that the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is very capable indeed. The screen is clear, bright and has great viewing angles, although it lacks that super-high resolution that's all the rage these days.Perhaps best of all though, is the price. Samsung hates the idea that people think it is a...

On the pro side we’ve got the OS and UI, that are a good combo in this case and finally TouchWiz is not so bothersome as it was on the 2011 Galaxy Tabs. Also, the battery is pretty good, the camera is decent, the speakers are very good and the design is pleasant. On the cons side, the price is still...
