Informr score
The Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue currently has an Informr score of 5 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 4 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Solid, unibody construction
  • Fully-functional phone

What's bad

  • Weak display
  • Sluggish performance

The Huawei Mediapad 7 Vogue features a 7-inch display, quad-core processor running at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard memory - expandable to 32GB. It offers two cameras and a fully functional phone, all wrapped in a glass front, with an aluminum and plastic body.

The 1,024 x 600 LCD display underwhelmed many reviewers. The screen resolution translates into 170 ppi, which is low even for a tablet aimed at the budget end of the market. According to NotebookCheck, “Even in the low-budget segment, a resolution of 1280x800 pixels is basically a requirement (since, at the latest, 2012's Nexus 7), whereas the Vogue can really only compete with the minimal features of the original Kindle Fires or various other cheap tablets.” And PhoneArena said that “the graphics and text displayed on it lack detail.”

The Mediapad 7 runs on Android 4.1.2 that has been modified with Huawei’s EmotionUI 1.5 interface. Android users will notice immediately the lack of an app drawer; every app just goes on the screen. You can still create folders, but the absence of an app drawer may be missed by Android fans. PhoneArena said, “This is supposedly meant to make the UI simpler, yet we don't want to imagine what having 218 apps loaded onto the device would look like.”

Additional features include a 3.2 megapixel camera that offers a variety of shooting modes and can record 720p video, a 4,100mAh battery rated at up to 20 hours of talk time, and the ability to use the tablet as a fully functional phone.

Overall, reviewers agreed that this product lacked in most key areas, but they found the phone feature useful and somewhat novel. NotebookCheck said, “Throughout our tests, it was difficult to shake the feeling that the MediaPad 7 Vogue is simply a year too late to the party.”

What the Critics Are Saying...

Unless you absolutely must have a tablet that can make phone calls, we'd advise you to pass on the Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue. Sure, it seems like a decent Android slate at first glance, but the more we use it, the more we get turned off by it. What bothers us the most is that the Vogue feels sluggish...

- Nick T., PhoneArena

All in all, regardless of its shortcomings, the Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue manages to balance value and performance, looks and price. It's not as snappy as we would've liked, and its display pins it right at the bottom of the tablet food chain. Still, the full telephony is a nice, and rare, feature to...

Would not recommend this tablet over some of the other 7 inch tablets out there, simply because it just does not measure up. Although, if you have a friend or relative that is looking for a cheap tablet with some pretty nice customizations, then I would recommend suggesting the Vogue. Android enthus...

It simply isn't practical to use as a phone.
