Phone Scoop

It may not include all the bells and whistles, but it still impresses with solid performance

- Eric M. Zeman, Phone Scoop
Laptop Magazine

The LG Optimus F3 packs some cool features like floating apps and Home button LED notifications into a lightweight design. However, while this Android phone is $29 with a 2-year contract, there are other devices in the same price range (or cheaper) that are much better.

With much attention put on smartphones with higher-end spec sheets and flashy bells and whistles, it's great to see that LG is not forgetting about the normal smartphone user. For most of us, features such as battery life, GPS accuracy and ease of use are most important. With a dual-core processor a...

Indeed, there’s just so much where an entry-level smartphone can go – especially when last year’s mid-rangers tend to occupy the same space nowadays. Looking at the $29.99 on-contract price point of the LG Optimus F3, it might not scare the pants off us with its meager specs sheet,...

The software features of the F3 all functioned perfectly. LG's user interface additions to the Android operating system make plenty of room for user customization. Items such as the QSlide apps and QuickMemo firmly put LG's stamp on the F3. Lastly, the 5-megapixel camera surprised me with its solid results.

With much attention put on smartphones with higher-end spec sheets and flashy bells and whistles, it's great to see that LG is not forgetting about the normal smartphone user. For most of us, features such as battery life, GPS accuracy and ease of use are most important. With a dual-core processor and running Android 4.1.2, the F3 may not whiz through more complicated apps, but the unit does deliver fast and accurate performance with minimal lag.

Indeed, there’s just so much where an entry-level smartphone can go – especially when last year’s mid-rangers tend to occupy the same space nowadays. Looking at the $29.99 on-contract price point of the LG Optimus F3, it might not scare the pants off us with its meager specs sheet, but at least it’s treated to some of the enhancements that are found with LG’s higher-end offerings. It’s cheap, and definitely looks and feels that way, but heck, it doesn’t falter too much in its overall performance to make it feel like a debilitating piece of hardware.
