A better phone for Tango AR but far from perfect

from GreenBot
If you’re dying to try out AR on an Android phone, then by all means buy a Zenfone AR. There are enough Tango apps in the Play Store to get your money’s worth, and the platform will only get stronger and more robust. But if you’re looking for a new phone and only have a casual interest in AR, I’d pass. The reality is that it’s just not good enough for the price... Full review

The Best Of AR And VR

from Android Headlines

ASUS has crafted an amazing phone, and likely their best phone ever. It’s more expensive than many ASUS phones, which often try to compete in the higher value-for-money market segment, but as a result it offers more premium features than those devices do. In addition to that, the ZenFone AR is the first device to support both Google Tango and Google Daydream ecosystems, making this the ultimate AR and VR phone. There’s some trade-offs when comparing to other 2017 flagships, like a slightly slower processor and no waterproofing, but you’ll be getting capabilities that no ot... Full review

The phone that warps reality

from Expert Reviews
For once, I have a straightforward verdict to write, and that’s because, categorically, the Asus Zenfone AR is not a phone I’d recommend. This is not because there’s anything fundamentally wrong with phone itself. Indeed, it’s nice to see a smartphone company branching out and doing something different and the screen, camera, design and performance are all perfectly acceptable. It’s just that, for £800, you can do better... The phone to spearhead the new mobile AR and VR movement

from TechRadar
The Asus Zenfone AR is a great demo for augmented reality and Daydream virtual reality, even if it shows AR is begging for more great apps. However, it’s a tough sell when the phone costs as much as a Galaxy S8 Plus but has a less striking design, no water resistance and less power... Full review

Nails the high-end look

from Tech Advisor

The Asus Zenfone AR is an incredible piece of kit for those looking for something AR- and VR-ready, as it’s the only smartphone to boast both Project Tango and Google Daydream support. The AR capabilities are incredible, although it’s somewhat limited by the apps available on Google Play at the moment. Moving beyond that, the smartphone is sleek, gorgeous and features an incredibly detailed WQHD display that’s more than enough to display the highly detailed images you’ll capture on the rear-facing 23Mp snapper. The only downside to this amazing piece of tech is the s... Full review

There is more here beyond AR and VR

from The Indian Express
When I started reviewing the phone for its AR and VR capabilities, it dawned on me that this is a pretty good Android phone overall with good features and dependable performance. Given its good design quotient with faux leather back and metallic sides, along with the subdued Zen UI and high quality camera, I would suggest that you should consider this phone as a good all-round Android option... Does augmented reality well

from NDTV
The ZenFone AR is an example of a new direction that the smartphone industry could head in. Instead of simply beefing up the internals, Asus offers a set of new experiences on a single smartphone. What the ZenFone AR offers at the moment is unique, but it is a niche product for people who might have a use for AR, rather than a great phone which also has that feature. If you want to be among the first to experience AR, or simply show off, this is the phone for you... Full review

Time to Tango, dare to DayDream

from Recombu

In terms of performance, camera tech, battery life and media chops, you’ll find rival blowers that offer that little bit more for the same price or less. All the same, the Zenfone AR doesn’t disappoint in any of these areas, giving a well-rounded user experience. In terms of features, this ZenFone flagship is absolutely stacked to the gills. However, it’s two in particular - the DayDream and Tango support - that really help this Asus phone to stand out from the crowd. Both function well and you’ll struggle to find other phones that offer even one of these platfo... Full review

Has the potential to be one of the best mobile cameras around

from Recombu
As you might expect, you get the full complement of beauty modes to alter your appearance virtually and make you look like some kind of terrifying (yet oddly gorgeous) mannequin. Otherwise, if you simply want to snap your mug in all of its naked unaltered glory, the ZenFone does a solid job. You can expect quite bright, detailed shots that can be saved as well as shared...
