The Galaxy Tab series has always been a contender in the high-end tablet market. With this device, Samsung is hoping to offer a budget-friendly tablet to round out their offerings while retaining the look and polish of their flagship series. Brian Johnson of GamerTabletz says, “In term of design, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 still inherits the same chubby look of its older sibling.” Unfortunately, the competition within this market is fierce and offers plenty of alternative options to consider.
Reviews on the device are average at best. However, this could depend on your ideal usage for the device. GSM Arena points out that, “It's an extra browsing or reading screen in the living room, something to get your kid because you wouldn't spoil them with an iPad or a Galaxy Pro.” They also mentioned, “In video playback, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 lasted for 9 hours, which will more than do on the commute or long flight.” If you are looking for a basic media consumption device, most reviews seem to point to the device working well.
When you start getting into the finer details, however, things are not as great as they might seem. GSM Arena notes, “most 1080p videos didn't play, mainly due to the chipset limitations” and “The speaker on its back sounds very weak. It will do for watching YouTube in a quiet environment but not much in a louder setting.” Brian Johnson of Gamer Tabletz says, “If you’re looking for a great and powerful gaming tablet, then you might want to check out other tablets.”
Throughout many reviews, the same concern is mentioned--price. GSM Arena notes that, “There definitely are sharper screens in the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite's price bracket.” Game Tabletz says, “In the price range there are many other great alternatives that are just better than this Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0.”
The problem does not appear to be with the tablet itself. It is that there is so much to choose from at a similar price point, including the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, that just have more to offer. Brian Linder of Liliputing sums it up the majority of reviews well when he states, “All told, if you can afford to spend a little more for the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, I’d recommend skipping the Lite model.”
