As the name suggests, the HP Slate 10 HD offers a 10-inch 1280x800 pixel display. The combination of poor resolution and large screen leads to noticeable text and image pixelization as experts soon found out. Although the resolution of the tablet cannot compare to higher end competitors like the Google Nexus 10 or Asus MeMo Pad 10 FHD, critics believe that it more than makes up for it with its excellent viewing angles, even luminosity and contrast ratio. They did notice issues with color balance, especially among the red and grey tones; though they go on to say that the slight discolorations are barely visible.
Encasing the display is a polycarbonate chassis and non-removable back cover. Despite its relatively heavy weight of 630 grams, testers found the tablet easy to hold due to its textured back, rounded corners and gently curved edges. The case quality, however, is a different story. Notebook check discovered that they could easily twist and bend the case although they add that, "the tablet seems by no means fragile…"
Behind the display is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of ram and up to 32GB of internal memory. In synthetic benchmark tests, the Slate 10 HD ranges in the middle of the pack for 10-inch tablets. For regular day-to-day performance, reviewers found the device to be fairly slow. PC Pro noticed significant delays when attempting to browse the web and even when utilizing the onscreen keyboard. When using more processor intensive apps like Asphalt 8, critics were bogged down by frequent stutters even on the lowest detail setting. On the upside, experts were happy with the battery life, which lasted around 12 hours.
For the most part, experts were unimpressed with the HP Slate 10 HD. Laptop Mag states, "it's not the best bargain tablet." PC Pro adds, "…It's simply too slow and frustrating in use for us to recommend."

- Michael Grothaus, Know Your MobileThe HP Slate 10 HD isn’t a tablet I would buy for myself, but then again I’m somewhat of a power tablet user. It is, however, a tablet I would buy for a child or an older parent who isn’t technically savvy and just wants a device that could get them on the web and allow them to sen...
