The "1-Minute" Review
Verdict
The Amazon Fire HD 10 is an excellent budget-friendly large tablet for media consumption and light productivity work as long as you don't mind the heavy-handed Amazon influence on the software and can accept some performance compromises. The Amazon Fire HD 10 (2021) refreshes Amazon’s largest tablet model. It offers a lot of the same things other Fire tablets have with a few minor adjustments. It releases alongside the Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus (2021) and is a very similar device.
What’s the Same
- 10.1-inch display
- 32 or 64GB storage with the option for MicroSD expansion
- Soft-touch plastic chassis
- Alexa-capable
What’s Different
- More color options available for the Fire HD 10
- Does not support wireless charging
- Screen protector and case bundled.
- 3GB of RAM versus the Plus’ 4GB
While the Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus (2021) has a couple of additional features going for it, the Amazon Fire HD 10 still has a lot to offer for a budget tablet. The screen is about 10% brighter than that of the older Fire models and has an improved feel with the soft-touch plastic back. The Amazon Fire HD 10 also comes in a range of color options that the Fire HD 10 Plus (2021) does not such as black, denim, lavender and olive.
PC Magazine says, “Amazon updates the Fire HD 10 to deliver a very good tablet for $150, as long as what you want to do is control Alexa and consume Amazon books and media. Even without the Google Play store, it's the best tablet you can get for less”
Wired states, “It's still crazy cheap. It’s the easiest way to consume all things Amazon. A productivity bundle makes real work possible, depending on your line of work. Battery life is comparable to any other tablet. MicroSD slot for extra storage.”

What the Critics Are Saying...

- Victoria Woollaston, Radio TimesAmazon’s Fire HD 10 occupies a welcomed middle-ground. You get a well-balanced, largely well-designed 10-inch device on which to watch your favourite shows. It has enough power to do a range of tasks, and the addition of Show Mode just increases its versatility and appeal. All without charging a for...

- Antonio Villas-Boas, Business InsiderIt's hard to recommend the $149.99 Fire HD 10 when Apple's standard 10.2-inch 9th-generation iPad offers so much more — even if it starts at $329. If you catch the Fire HD 10 at its $99.99 discounted price, the standard iPad is still a significantly better tablet that's worth the extra cost. Not onl...

- SaVanna Shoemaker, MashableThe Amazon Fire HD 10 has a vibrant display for reading and video streaming, but it comes up short on app selection and web browsing.

- What Hi-FiIt's not a big update on its predecessor, but the 2021 version of the Fire HD 10 is still a lot of surprisingly good tablet for not much money

- Hannah Davies, TrustedReviewsThe Amazon Fire HD 10 is a good choice if you want a basic tablet to stream movies, join calls and access Alexa. However, the Fire OS and Amazon’s Appstore leave something to be desired.
