Reviews summary

6.5/10AVG.
RATING
Based on 4 reviews

The market is flooded with several forgettable Android tablets but the Acer Iconia A210 aims to be not just another 10-inch slate.

Reviews point out that despite its budget pricing of $300, the device boasts of a quad-core 1.2GHz Tegra 3 processor, a beautiful and sturdy design, and a neat array of connections (USG, microSD slot, and mini HDMI output).

Some reviews, however, have been quick to note of the tablet's slow 20-second boot time. Once opened though, apps run very fast and web pages load quickly.

At 720 grams and at 12.4mm thick, the successor to the Iconia A200 is neither the world's lightest nor the thinnest tablet. Aside from that, the screen offers a decent 1280 x 800 resolution display and supports 256 colors, not a strong point considering that the likes of Amazon and Apple have been touting high-resolution tablets.

Another common complaint is that, as with some other Android tablets, the A210 won't come with the latest Android Jelly Bean software and doesn't come with business focused apps other than the Polaris Office suite.

Notwithstanding its shortcomings, consensus is that the Tab A210 is a great device for entertainment. The decent screen and the powerful innards allow the wide array of built-in apps like Netflix, Acetrax, 7digital, Kobo and Zinio to run fluidly.

Need to Know: Acer Iconia Tab A210

1. Quad-core processor provides a boost in performance. (The Good)

2. Sturdy and well-designed. (The Good)

3. Doesn't offer features for productivity and business. (The Bad)

4. Not pre-installed with the latest Android operating system. (The Bad)

Another engrossing slice of portable football management

from Pocket Gamer

All in all, match days feel like a curiously hands-off, slightly randomised experience. Perhaps that reflects the essentially powerless nature of football management, but it left me questioning the worth of my tinkering in the areas that I could control.

Another year, another opportunity missed to give us what most Football Manager fans really want - a version of the great game that shares more of its DNA with the desktop versions.

Improvements have been made in Football Manager Handheld 2015, but they feel like mowing the pitch and slapping a coat of paint on the changing room doors when the team's ageing engine room needs replacing.

In terms of value for money, it's hard to beat

Granted, it's all about functionality and value, not flashy features and design. It's almost a third thicker than the iPad, though uses that girth well; the inclusion of a USB 2.0 slot makes casual file-swapping easy while also allowing keyboards to be wired-up.
