Informr score
The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra currently has an Informr score of 7.7 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 24 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

As the larger variant in Sony’s latest Xperia X Series, the XA2 Ultra offers a few upgrades aimed at media lovers or those who prefer a larger phone.

While most of the specs are identical to the smaller XA2, the phone features a larger 6-inch 1080p LCD panel. Reviewers still found the panel crisp despite the size increase. The added real estate should help for those looking to enjoy movies, tv shows, or games on the go.

The processor remains the same, but the additional RAM -- 4GB -- should help to smooth out multitasking and provide more pep when launching apps.

There’s also a bigger battery rated at 3580mAh. Like with the smaller variant, reviewers had no trouble cruising through a day of light to moderate usage on a single charge.

One of the biggest differences apart from screen size is in the cameras. While the rear camera is the same 23MP option as the smaller phone, the XA2 Ultra includes a dual-lens setup on the front of the camera. The 16MP and 8MP lenses impressed reviewers, and they found them great when in low light.

Overall, if you don’t mind the additional expense and a larger footprint, the XA2 Ultra is a worthy upgrade over the standard model.

What the Critics Are Saying...

If you’re a smartphone user who sticks to the basics like web browsing, music streaming, texting, social media, and email, the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra is a decent mid-range device which should easily cover those bases for you. Unfortunately, there are other devices on the market with better specificat...

The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra lags behind most current high-end models, but can outperform some of its mid-range rivals — for example, the Meizu Pro 7 Plus and the Motorola Moto G5S. Befitting its mid-range status, it’s distinctly mid-table — not disgracing itself, but not setting the world on fire, eit...

- Angela Nicholson, DxOMark

With a stellar selfie camera, a beautiful screen and a capable chipset, the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra is a solid choice if you’re looking for a larger phone for media consumption and social media use. But its price and overall size makes it an awkward pill to swallow.

A solid mid-range phone that’s pushed lower down the ladder because of the competition. You get good performance for the price, and day-long battery life. It also has an outdated and boring design, a mediocre camera, and the software isn’t pleasing to use.

Clearly a binge watching and gaming and music machine. It’s also pretty good for video capture, but one of its core purposes, selfies were a bit below expectations. Those expectations were rather high and I expected to be blown away by the dual front camera. Not quite… However, if you’re looking for...
