Not bad to start out

this was my first phone 3 years ago, it worked well for me. It did overheat occasionally and the reception wasnt the best in London, Ontario. But for a beginner phone it was alright.

Samsung a460 LCD Screen

Update Re: Oct 16, 2005 My LCD screen is still working perfectly after the repair by the manufacturer Samsung. When it was sent out, they replaced ribbon with updated part.

Needs to be recalled

This phone has a known defect where the screen blanks out. This phone should be recalled.

Had two models of this phone. When i got this, it was the phone, everyone had it. After a while i foudn that it would over heat and the reception was bad. At first i thought thta the terrible reception was due to the network (aliant), but then i found out that my freinds who also had aliant phones could get reception in the same places i could. The overheating problem eventually became so severe (talk for 2 mins. and it would become very hot) that i had to return it, after i had brought in the phone 4 times to be repaired! Aliant was very reluctant to replace my phone, but they finally did. Then they gave me a new model of the same phone. Had this one for over a year not really any problems, just minor overheating problems and the normal Al;iant bad reception. Today my screen went. It looks like there is a huge inkblot on the screen and there is a crack. This is strange becasue i turned it on 3 hrs ago and it was perfectly fine, and i left it on my desk. Really weird. I would reccomend thsi phone if it was Free of Charge, and you were giving it to a 6 year old. Less

This phone, despite all its problems, is by far my favorite cell phone ever. No, it doesn't have a camera. Yes, I too had trouble with the screen dying after 2 years (just as I was switching services, fortunately). So I wouldn't go buying one used. But in spite of all that it still seemed elegant. Yes, I too had trouble with the screen dying after 2 years (just as I was switching services, fortunately). So I wouldn't go buying one used. But in spite of all that it still seemed elegant. The menu was simple and easy to navigate. The text messaging software was far superior to that of my current phone - a Verizon LG VX7000 - which makes it inexplicably difficult to use punctuation or capitalize your messages. But nicest of all was the keypad. Instead of the "buttons" used on most Samsung phones nowadays, they were recessed keys with a nice layout and a cool blue backlight. It's a silly thing, I know, but someone should tell Samsung they need to go back to the future, 'cause they had a winner (except for the dead screen, natch). Less

I hate this phone!

I have had continued issues with this phone. My LCD screen has just gone for the 2nd time. When I went into Bell to discuss my issues, they guessed the make and model immediately. There is obviously a manufacturing issue here and it frustrates me that Samsung has done nothing about it. Has anyone received a free phone out of all of this?

Loose Ground Cable Is A Constant Problem

After taking it in this last time, I asked the rep why the phone kept losing its display. She said it was a known problem with this phone. She said it has a ribbon cable inside and after some time it just comes loose (she called it a "loose ground"). She said there is no solution except to press the ribbon back into position whenever it comes loose (but, of course, that can be done only by a technician who has to take the phone completely apart). Pain in the neck. Although I do like this phone (even though it''s certainly a very basic clam shell, I''d avoid it again simply because of the display problem. Also, its reception isn''t nearly as good as others I have owned. Less

At least that''s my overall opinion of the phone. Either that or for someone who is looking for the basics. I''ve had the phone for well over a year now and needless to say, I''ve grown attached to it. It is my first flip phone and the basics are great. Above average battery life (3-4 days standby), great sound quality, wicked reception (except for that one time when it flipped constantly from Analog - CDMA, but great otherwise), and very durable (although I don''t recommend kicking the phone across the grocery store to prove my point). However, now that I am a bit more versed in the wireless industry (working for an American provider), I find the phone to be a little too plain. It''s has ordinary backdrops (only like 4 to choose from), decent ring tones (not the best however), no games (in case you are into that), and text messaging can sometimes be a pain (if you''re not familiar w/ the phone or text messaging for that matter), no changeable face plates (at least, none that I am aware of), and it''s speaker phone is not the best quality. As well, one thing I noticed is that after talking on the phone for somewhere between 25-40 mins, the phone can get extremely hot. Now granted the battery should get warm, but not to the point where it''s getting to burn your ear off. Other than that though, the phone is a decent model and one that I would definatley recommend to someone who is buying the phone second hand and wants to try it out. Less
