The Wirecutter

The best sounding bluetooth speaker

from The Wirecutter

The Xtreme 2 easily fills a large room (or a small parking lot) with satisfying sound, and its rugged, waterproof design makes it trunk-friendly.

The Gadgeteer

Well built, waterproof Bluetooth speaker with quality sound

from The Gadgeteer

In terms of sound, it produces quality sound but lacks the expected power, especially based on its size and weight. Indoors the sound is adequate, and on a quiet day outdoors, it would likely be loud enough. However, any place where there is relatively normal ambient noise, it lacks the power to be the “life of the party”.

If you're looking for your next party speaker, look no further. It isn't perfect, but the Xtreme 2 nails the most important aspects of a tough Bluetooth speaker.

High-fidelity, powerful sound

Will that mean those expecting extreme bass will be disappointed? Potentially. The JBL Xtreme 2’s low-end is deep and powerful, but the team behind its tuning clearly had higher aims than club-style bass

What Hi-Fi

Xtreme style, extremely pleasant sound

A powerful speaker to go tailgating with

It’s hard to recommend splurging and dropping nearly $300 on a newer Xtreme 2 unless you really want the ability to connect 100 JBL speakers together or plan to fully submerge your speaker every now and then. While the IPX7 waterproof build of the Xtreme 2 is certainly tempting, it may not be worth it especially when you consider that the Xtreme is still splashproof and can survive being left out in the rain without a problem.

Lets you bring your favorite tunes just about anywhere you want to get down

from TechHive

This banging party machine brings your favorite tunes to your next party. The bass can be quite boomy, but it's sturdy enough to survive a dunk in the pool and keep on playing.

Booty-shaking bass comes at a price

from TechnoBuffalo

The barrel-shaped sound launcher combines rugged portability and solid audio, but not without a couple compromises. Most noticeably, the $250-plus price tag.

Pocket-lint

Taking the party outside

from Pocket-lint

It might not be the prettiest speaker ever, but the JBL Xtreme 2 is designed with purpose and highly practical for outdoors use thanks to its carry handle and robust, water-resistant design. It thumps out the sound too, which is where it really wins.

Gear Patrol

The big Bluetooth speaker for big parties

from Gear Patrol

The JBL Xtreme 2 is a party speaker, through and through. It sounds best at high volumes and when placed in the middle of the party (or the room). There is an app, but you don’t really have to mess with it. Bottom line, if you want a big portable speaker, this is a great one to buy.
