Few messaging feature phones out there are like AT&T’s Pantech Renue. With a small QVGA touchscreen display and somewhat unconventional looks, you may think it’s not worth spending any amount of money on. In reality, though, it may be one of the more useful budget handsets available in its price range. And it’s eco-friendly, too.
The Renue comes with simple features and a simple appearance. While its low resolution touchscreen display can be a little hard to use for menu navigation and character input, this problem is easily remedied with the use of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
Being a simple feature phone running Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile platform with 256MB of RAM, it can never hope to match today’s leading Android smartphones in terms of sheer performance. However, it does manage to get a few important things right, as far as phone features are concerned. For one thing, the combination of the QVGA touchscreen display and QWERTY keyboard for input really makes it great for heavy texters and e-mailers. And the design helps users make the most out of the limited hardware features, which include a built-in 3-megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom.
So in summation, even though the Renue is not the fastest or the best-looking eco-friendly smartphone available on the market, it definitely gets the job done. And quite masterfully, at that.

What the Critics Are Saying...
- Eric M. Zeman, Phone ScoopIn addition to being environmentally friendly, the Renue bundles together a full QWERTY keyboard and a touch screen in this pocket-friendly quick messaging device.
- Jessica Dolcourt, CnetPeople who want to text and make calls and do little else besides should keep the Pantech Renue in the ring when picking out a new feature phone. The price is fair for a handset of this type that isn't being subsidized to abnormally deflated levels, and the compact shape and size let it offer differ...
