The Galaxy Z Flip 5G brings a few new tricks, but it largely features the same design, specs, and functionality of the standard Galaxy Z Flip.
There’s some debate on the relevance of 5G right now. It adds some future proofing to the phone, but unless you live in an area with 5G service (and have a compatible plan) it’s not giving any benefits right now.
If you’re not concerned about 5G capability right now (or perhaps you’re a person who likes to upgrade phones often) then the standard Galaxy Z Flip would be more than enough phone.
Key differences between the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and standard Galaxy Z Flip include:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor
- 5G connectivity
- Slightly higher price
The upgraded processor doesn’t bring much in terms of performance increases. It’s mostly about adding 5G support.
Otherwise, you’ll find things identical to the standard model. For more on what to expect, be sure to check our Galaxy Z Flip summary.
What the Critics Are Saying...
- Sean Riley, Laptop MagThe Galaxy Z Flip 5G wasn’t quite the mind-blowing revelation for me that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 proved to be, but that’s due more to my personal use case and not anything lacking in the phone. We’ve seen over the last year that while there was plenty of praise for the iPhone 12 mini as a smaller devic...
- Leigh :) Stark, PickrThe Galaxy Z Flip is a breath of fresh air for phone designs. It’s a flippin’ revelation, and something different in a world where so many phones are the same. This is a world where phones have continuously managed to get bigger, despite our pants pockets staying roughly the same. It’s so nice to se...
- Judie Lipsett Stanford, Gear DiaryThe Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is easily the most well-built, hardest-working, fun to use, and best-looking flip-phone available yet. While it’s not quite as spec-loaded as some of the other flagship slab phones currently available, it does a more than respectable job of keeping up while delivering somet...
- Matt Swider, TechRadarThe Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the flip-phone-style foldable smartphone with a 6.7-inch display that collapses in half. Its novelty will turn heads, but so will its extraordinarily high price. It now comes in 4G LTE or 5G, each with durable thin glass that makes it feel more durable than the Moto Razr...
- Helena Stone, GeekSpinThe Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G is one of our favorite phones of 2020 because it’s futuristic and downright fun to use. The newer 5G model offers significant performance improvements over its predecessor that make it worth the $80 premium. However, it’s still somewhat difficult to recommend because of...
