The "1-Minute" Review
Verdict
The Xiaomi 12 Pro packs a lot of punch and performance while dropping off the camera game, and because of it, all the battery suffers massively. What's good
- 120Hz AMOLED panel
- Fast 120W charging
- Beautiful matte finish
- Excellent night mode
What's bad
- No IP rating
- Poor zoom on the camera
- Too big for one-handed use
- New UI may not be for everyone
Looking at the phone, it’s easy to tell the Xiaomi 12 Pro is big, has a nice screen, and has an excellent finish. What else does it have to offer?
Design
The Xiaomi 12 Pro is too large to use one-handed. There’s a matte finish on the back of the phone, though, which can help improve grip. The color options are Blue, Gray, or Purple. Reviewers stated that the colors are not overblown; they’re muted, giving the phone a grown-up feel.
Display
The Xiaomi 12 Pro utilizes a Samsung 120Hz LTPO AMOLED panel, offering bright, vibrant visuals with excellent color quality. If you need to save battery, you toggle 120Hz mode off. Reviewers liked the ability to control the color on a granular level as well.
Performance
The phone has the highest level of Android chips in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and it shows. Powerful and quick, reviewers were delighted with the performance, multitasking like a dream in most cases.
Software & Storage
It comes loaded with Android 12, but a slight change is the new UI MIUI. The issue reviewers had with the MIUI is the bloatware it came installed with otherwise, it performed better than past attempts on other phones. You have the option of 128GB or 256GB for storage. Sadly there’s only a dual SIM slot but not a MicroSD expansion option.
Cameras
The primary 50MP lens worked great, according to reviewers. The only issue that reviewers mentioned regarding the camera was a poor zoom ability and the price point of the phone being worthy of a better set of cameras.
Battery Life
Looking at the stats for the battery, it’s pretty small for other phones in its class. However, it seemed to get through the day just fine. Of course, with all battery life, it depends on what you do with the phone, especially with the 120Hz refresh rate available. Overall, reviewers felt confident it would last a day.
Audio
There are two speakers on the Xiaomi 12 Pro, top and bottom. Reviewers said that while it still couldn’t beat Apple's amazing sound, it came reasonably close. It helps that they have support from Dolby Atmos.
Specs at a Glance

- 6.7-inch Samsung LTPO AMOLED
- Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor
- 8/12GB of RAM
- Android 12
- 128GB/256GB of storage

Bottom Line
There’s not a lot to be dissatisfied with regarding the Xiaomi 12 Pro. Maybe the camera doesn’t feel entirely up to par with the price point. Those in the U.S will be sorely disappointed that it doesn’t support their networks in most cases. But other than those two items, there wasn’t an issue that arose from using the phone.
Android Police states, “The Xiaomi 12 Pro is the definition of a solid phone. It has a sharp display, best-in-class speakers, and a great camera setup. However, it's big, doesn't work in the US, and MIUI will be a big adjustment coming from any other Android phone.”
Tech Radar says, “The Xiaomi 12 Pro is one of the most balanced phones around, and the fact that it costs just shy of $1,000 means it undercuts the best from Apple, Oppo, and Samsung. It misses out on a good camera zoom, but that's the only real drawback to an otherwise great package - one that combines a refined design that keeps fingerprints at bay with class-leading fast-charging, a zingy screen, and stacks of power.”
