The Samsung Gusto 2 at Verizon takes nearly everything from its successor, the Gusto, and packs it inside a slightly different looking body. The end result is a compact flip phone with a somewhat better built-in camera and much of the same old features. It has a 2-inch low-res color display, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 1-megapixel camera. The rest of the items in its spec sheet won’t wow anyone, but what it lacks in terms of hardware and software, it makes up for in portability and ease of use.
The 2 is a dual-band CDMA clamshell phone that comes with a very limited amount of onboard RAM and internal storage space. It’s a mobile phone in the truest sense of the word.
In its closed state, it makes itself useful through a small external display that shows the date and time along with indicators for important things like signal strength and battery life. When you flip it open, you’ll find that its upper half houses its main color screen while its lower half contains a standard alphanumeric keypad. What makes the keypad great, besides large tactile keys, is the presence of a bunch of easy-access buttons which include one for messaging and another for ICE numbers.
The Gusto 2 is a phone that is truly focused on messaging and telecommunications. It offers good call quality and acceptable battery performance, but as some reviewers point out, it should be available at a much lower price point.

What the Critics Are Saying...
- Alex Colon, PC MagazineThe Samsung Gusto 2 is a good, simple voice phone for Verizon Wireless, but it really should be free.
- Jessica Dolcourt, CnetSamsung has managed to turn around the Gusto 2 by improving the phone's most important features: call quality and design. I also appreciate the bump in camera and onboard memory, and the extra effort to include accessibility options like voice readout of the menu and texts, ICE numbers, and whisper...
