Informr score
The Samsung Galaxy Express 2 currently has an Informr score of 6.6 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 3 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Excellent battery life
  • Smooth performance
  • Good screen viewing angles

What's bad

  • Display colors not true-to-life
  • Poor outdoor viewing
  • Thicker than average smartphone at 0.39 inches

The second iteration of the Galaxy Express offers a 4G connection and better specs. The handset itself doesn't stray too far from the standard Samsung design with its plastic chassis, rounded corners and slightly curved back. In fact, if not for the difference in size, which a few called "chubby", reviewers could barely tell it apart from the flagship phone, the Galaxy S4.

The 4.5-inch IPS display offers a resolution of 540x960 and pixel density of 245ppi. Critics were happy with its sharpness as they could easily read normal-sized text though smaller text was a bit more difficult to decipher. While the display offered good viewing angles, reviewers were fairly disappointed with the color accuracy. According to Phone Arena, the colors on the screen were washed out and pale and almost all were slightly off, especially the ones falling in the blue and cyan range. Besides poor color reproduction, critics also mention that the display is difficult to view outdoors due to the reflective screen and dim lighting.

The Express 2 runs on a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM. While it doesn't boast the highest specs, reviewers didn't notice any lag during regular use or when handling demanding apps. Aside from processing power, it also comes with 8GB of internal memory with can be expanded via a microSD slot. The 2,100mAh removable battery lasted testers around a day with normal usage and around 7 hours of heavy usage. The 5 megapixel rear-facing camera did not wow anyone, although it was noted that it can take decent pictures in the right light and focal distance.

While the Galaxy Express 2 offered a rather solid experience for experts, most cannot give it a high recommendation. Recombu says, "The Samsung Galaxy Express 2 doesn't really stick out from the crowd…it awkwardly slots in between the Ace 3 and S4 Mini in a gap we don't really feel needed to be filled."

What the Critics Are Saying...

The Galaxy Express 2 is a smartphone with typical Samsung looks, a bit chubby in appearance, but otherwise solidly put together.

- Victor H., PhoneArena

The Samsung Galaxy Express 2 is a mid-ranger that boasts a snappy user experience and 4G speeds on a budget.

- Alex Todd, Recombu

So the Samsung Galaxy Express 2 looks good, feels good to use and performs well. What’s not to like? Well, the price. At £225 on pay as you go the Samsung is expensive. The game changing Motorola Moto G is just as good as the Express 2 and can be picked up for around £100 less!To be...
