The "1-Minute" Review

Verdict

There’s a lot to like about the new OnePlus 10 Pro. Much of what was unsuccessful on previous phone versions has been improved upon. However, it still falls ever-so-slightly behind in other areas.

What's good

  • Good screen
  • Superfast charging
  • Very nice design

What's bad

  • The camera could be better
  • Battery life is mediocre
  • No 5G on AT&T

The OnePlus 10 Pro aims to dethrone some of the higher-end mid-rangers with a reasonable price and generous features. Does their approach work, and what do you get?

Design

This phone might be a bit on the big side for some people. Reviewers stated it had a beautiful matte finish in Black or Green. The backplate is made from Gorilla Glass along with an extra coat for preventing smudges.

Display

The 6.7-inch AMOLED is the main culprit for the phone’s large footprint. Reviewers say the screen is mega bright and beautiful. It learns how you like your screen brightness in certain situations with vivid colours and good contrast. If that’s not enough, it also supports a 120Hz refresh rate that adjusts itself depending on what you’re doing on your phone.

Performance

The OnePlus 10 Pro has the most powerful chipsets for Android as of its release. The only potential issue with that is the Snapdragon 8 Gen-1 is known for overheating. If you’re always in the high-performance mode, you’ll likely run into a very hot phone eventually.

Software & Storage

This phone comes loaded with Android 12 along with the company's Oxygen OS 12 running over the top. Reviewers were excited to see that the OnePlus 10 Pro will receive three years of updates and four years of security patches. You have the choice of either 8 or 12GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of space.

Cameras

Reviewers said the main issue with the camera set up on this phone was the zoom lens can blow out contrast too harshly. Likewise, if there’s a bright object anywhere in your photo without the zoom enabled, it can also cause pictures to look over-exposed and the colors dull or faded.

Battery Life

The most notable thing in terms of battery is the super-fast charging, 80W (the U.S is restricted to 65W) charging, meaning you could, in theory, have your phone charged and ready to go in around half an hour. The OnePlus 10 Pro has a 5,000mAh battery as well.

Audio

The OnePlus 10 Pro has dual speakers that reviewers stated can get very loud. However, at louder volumes, they lose clarity and become distorted. There is no headphone jack, but that’s easily remedied with either USB-C headphones or Bluetooth.

Specs at a Glance

  • Aluminum chassis
  • 6.7-inch AMOLED
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SM8450 processor
  • 8/12GB of RAM
  • Android 12 with OxygenOS 12
  • 128/256GB of storage
  • 48+MP camera
  • 5000mAh battery

Bottom Line

OnePlus 10 Pro is a phone that has corrected many of its predecessors’ errors. With the fastest chipset available for Android phones, it’s decently fast and responsive. The cameras leave something to be desired when it comes to reflective or glowing objects but are otherwise reliable and clear. 120Hz refresh rate adds to the appeal, especially since it can automatically adjust on its own. It’s probably the best Android phone as of its release in its price class.

Android Central says, “The OnePlus 10 Pro combines a bold new design with top-tier internal hardware, sublime 120Hz AMOLED screen, all-day battery life, and ultra-fast 80W charging. It has one of the best haptic engines, bloat-free software, and a 48MP camera that takes great photos. The software has a few bugs and the auxiliary cameras aren't particularly great, but as an all-round flagship, there is a lot to like here.”

Pocket Lint states, “In almost every way, the OnePlus 10 Pro is a very good smartphone. In fact, we have no serious complaints about it. The display is bright and smart, and the internal power ensures the 10 Pro retains that trademark 'fast and smooth' feel we've come to expect. Even the cameras are better this year. However, despite all of its strengths, the 10 Pro also doesn't blow us away in every area.”

What the Critics Are Saying...

It is fair to say that OnePlus no longer offers the best value for money when it comes to smartphones. While its devices have gotten better, the 10 Pro still has room for improvement to really warrant its price. The display is great, the processor snappy, and it has longer battery life than most. Ho...

While the OnePlus 10 Pro is the most expensive OnePlus you can buy, competing brands do have even steeper priced offerings, and yes, those generally beat the 10 Pro when it comes to camera quality, but you are literally paying for that with their higher price tags. If you're fine with not sporting t...

This phone looks to hit all the bells and whistles necessary to for a flagship device. Impressive hardware, vibrant display, and smooth easy to use software. Its cameras aren’t bad but still could use some work. OnePlus 10 Pro 5G is still one of the fastest charging phones on the market and gets bet...

OnePlus has come a long way and it’s evident with the OnePlus 10 Pro. The phone feels like a flagship and checks most of the boxes. The camera sharpness could be a little better, but it’s a lot better than what it once was. Between the great battery life, nice display, comfortable feel, and decent c...

If you just don’t like Samsung’s phones (and there are good reasons not to), and the Pixel 6 line’s rocky history has put you off that choice, then the OnePlus 10 Pro is a serious contender. It’s the third flagship we’ve been wanting. But in my case, it doesn’t quite meet the company’s tagline—Never...
