LG's entire approach with the G8s ThinQ is woefully out of date. It isn't a bad phone for its price, but there are far more polished options out there. The looks and hardware of the G8s ThinQ are somewhat out of date, and you don't get things like very quick charging, an HDR or high-refresh-rate display, in-display fingerprint sensor, or notchless design. Had this phone actually gone on sale closer to its February announcement at MWC, it would have had a much better chance.

The LG G8s ThinQ has some truly great features. It's powerful, its battery life is really very good for its capacity, and it's got the best OLED display LG has put into a G-series phone to date. Weighed against that are the gimmicky Air Gestures and HandID features which essentially don't work, and a camera array that's functional but not exciting in a market where that extra dose of pizzazz is so vital. LG has produced its best G-series phone to date in the LG G8s ThinQ, but it's still trailing its competitors at this price point. If you're a big LG fan, the LG V50 ThinQ remains the phone to buy.

Good Gear Guide

It very much feels like a flagship smartphone

from Good Gear Guide

The LG G8s does a great job of including almost everything you’d want from a flagship device. Gimmicks aside, you won’t get much more (or less) out of it than that. Wait a few months, shave off a couple hundred dollars and the LG G8S ThinQ starts to look pretty good.

Wait a few months, shave off a couple hundred dollars and the LG G8S ThinQ starts to look pretty good. Then, again, the same could probably be said for most of LG's smartphones nowadays.

The LG G series (LG G8s ThinQ) is not the top model, but it incorporates all the go-fast bells and whistles – top-of-the-range Qualcomm SD855, 6/128GB/microSD, 6.2-inch OLED, triple rear camera with AI, IP68, Qi charging and fast charging, DTS:X 3D/Meridian sound and a touchless gesture control.
