As the middle of the 2018 ZenFone lineup the Asus ZenFone 5 offers much of the visual flair of the ZenFone 5Z with scaled back specs and price.
It shares much of its specs with its pricier sibling, including screen size, design, cameras, and battery.
However, there are a two key differences.
The first is the display. While both feature 6.2-inch 1080-by-2246 pixel displays, the ZenFone 5 uses an IPS display instead of the AMOLED display found in the more expensive 5Z. Reviewers found the display nice and bright with good viewing angles and color. Contrast isn’t as high as the AMOLED panel in the 5Z and as such it has trouble hiding the notch. Otherwise, it received high marks.
It also features a weaker processor -- a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 with either 4 or 6GB of RAM. Despite the slower processor, reviewers found it plenty powerful for daily use. Moreso, you should expect slightly better battery life as it uses the same battery as it’s pricier sibling but the hardware requires less power.
