The "1-Minute" Review

The decision between the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max essentially comes down to screen size and battery life. If you want the best of both -- and don't mind the price tag -- the Pro Max is the ultimate 2021 iPhone model.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the largest in the 2021 line of iPhone models and carries very similar specs to the slightly smaller iPhone 13 Pro.

What’s The Same?

  • 120Hz adaptive refresh rate
  • A15 Bionic chipset
  • iOS 15
  • Cinematic mode
  • Super Retina XDR OLED display
  • Tri-lens camera

What’s Different

  • Bigger phone
  • 6.7-inch display
  • Improved battery

The extra screen real estate on the iPhone 13 Pro Max might be of benefit to gamers, those videographers wanting to take full advantage of the new cinematic mode, or for those who like to binge-watch shows and movies via streaming services on the go.

While Apple does not release the actual battery capacity of its phones, reviewers reported one or two hours more of use between charges with the iPhone 13 Pro Max than the smaller Pro model as well.

Everything else is basically identical. You can read more about what to expect in our iPhone 13 Pro review!

Tom’s Guide says, “The winner of the iPhone 13 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro Max fight comes down to what you're looking for in your next phone. If you want a bigger display and longer battery life, our money is on the Pro Max despite the higher price.”

What the Critics Are Saying...

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max has turned out to be a great piece of high tech again, also bringing some real innovations, for example, with the 120-Hz display. There already was a design update last year, so the iPhone 13 Pro Max can hardly be distinguished from the iPhone 12 Pro Max in this regard. H...

- Florian Schmitt, Notebookcheck

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is easily one of the best phones this year, even with its high cost. There’s just so much going in this mobile, and it takes everything that was excellent about the iPhone 13 Pro and sticks it with a bigger and more capable battery. It’s big but brilliant.

XDA Developers

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is an extremely powerful phone with the best SoC, video camera, and ecosystem of apps and accessories. I personally find its size too unwieldy and uncomfortable to use long term, but this may not be an issue to you if you have large hands. I am 5’10” for reference, and I do not...

The iPhone 13 Pro Max isn’t a huge upgrade over its predecessor. It’s an iterative update that keeps it abreast of the competition at the high-end of the smartphone market – and it will keep Apple fans satisfied, especially those who are upgrading from an iPhone 11 Pro Max. And although the improvem...

Apple designs its own hardware, its own chipset, its operating system, and many of its applications, with each piece designed to work with the others. This design optimization means that both the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 12 Pro Max drain their batteries less when in use than many other devices. Now tha...
