The smaller of the Galaxy E series, the Samsung Galaxy E5 is almost identical to its bigger brother – the E7. Like the E7, the E5 comes with a polycarbonate body and metal trim. The rear side has a matte finish, which makes it easier for reviewers to grip and is also smooth to the touch. Despite being made of plastic, experts describe it "premium" in terms of build quality and design. It is also very thin at just under 0.3 inches and light weight at 119 grams.
The E5 boasts a 5-inch, 720p super AMOLED display, which is the same screen as the E7. However, due to its smaller size, the E5 has a higher pixel density of 294ppi leading to an overall sharper screen. Reviewers were impressed with the excellent contrast, deep blacks and rich colors the super AMOLED offered though they did notice a slight blue tint to whites when viewed at angles.
Performance-wise reviews are good across the board. The 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM paired with the Adreno 306 GPU offered enough power and memory to keep the phone humming smoothly through the user interface navigating, multitasking and gaming. Battery capacity is 2,400mAh which might seem small but critics were still able to get a good 5 to 9 hours during their battery draining tests. It also comes with 16GB of internal storage, which translates to 11GB after taking into account the OS and additional software from Samsung. Luckily, it comes equipped with a microSIM slot which can also be used as a microSD slot for more storage. Sadly, it only offers 3G connectivity.
For the amateur photographer, the phone comes with an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. Its features include autofocus, touch to focus, geo-tagging and smile detection for better selfies and group photos. While not as good as the iPhone 6 camera, experts describe it as "above average" with good detail and color reproduction in good lighting situations.
Overall, reviews are generally positive for the E5. Gadgets To Use states, "Samsung Galaxy E5 sounds like a decent midrange offering…"
