When it comes to rock and roll nostalgia, there’s few names that evoke feelings quite like Marshall. While you might not have a stack of tube amps lying around anymore, Marshall has spread into other audio markets to help you get your music fix. Their latest design, the Marshall Stanmore is a wireless Bluetooth speaker with the visual styling of a small guitar amp. But does it deserve the Marshall logo it so proudly displays? Let’s see what the reviews have to say!

Weighing more than 11 pounds and over a foot wide, the speaker is far from portable. In fact, it requiring connection to a standard power outlet pretty much ensures you won’t be bringing it to your next beach trip or block party. However, reviews are very positive if you’re looking for a classy speaker to enjoy around the house or even accent your television’s built-in speakers.

Inside it’s vinyl shell, the speaker houses a 5.25-inch woofer, dual 0.75-inch tweeters and an 80-watt Class D amp to offer room-filling sound. All reviews noted how well balanced and full the sound of the speaker is. PC Magazine cranked up the volume and said “the lack of distortion and surprisingly clear reproduction of the deep bass was admirable.” T3 agreed, stating “You never get so much as a hint of distortion and it doesn't want for balance at any point in the spectrum.”

Many reviews did note that some of the high notes, such as snare drums and cymbals, lacked a bit of the spatial quality that the rest of the audio exhibited. However, this wasn’t enough to ruin the experience or disqualify the Stanmore in an increasingly competitive high-end market.

Connectivity options on the speaker are plentiful with wired options including an optical connection, 3.5-inch and RCA inputs. Unfortunately, wireless options are limited to Bluetooth 4.0. While there is no AirPlay or NFC support, the speaker does support the new AptX audio technology, allowing for wired quality without the hassle of plugging in your device.

The biggest question asked by most reviews was whether the Stanmore was worth its price. If you like the looks of the speaker, it appears that the answer is a resounding yes. While there are other options at similar prices that offer similar performance, every review raved about the build quality and appearance of the speaker. Digital Trends summed up reviews best, stating, “Marshall’s Stanmore delivers satisfying sound in a package that is sure to turn heads.”
