The JBL Pulse 4 is an excellent Bluetooth speaker and its lightshow is more beautiful than ever. The sound quality is fantastic in almost every type of audio and you get great bass as well. The battery’s been improved as well, which is another positive thing about Pulse 4. However, speaking strictly in terms of audio quality, it offers a very minimal upgrade over the Pulse 3.

Unique light effect, well-balanced sound

JBL’s latest version of its party speaker certainly attracts the eye with its fancy LED display. It also produces an improved, room-filling 360 degree sound that belies its pint-glass size. Nevertheless, all that flash adds to the cost of a device that lacks the basic smart features of similar-sized speakers at this price, while it also jettisons a couple of handy features that its predecessor boasted.

Improved look, still sounds good

from Modern Accessory Review

If you are into some incredible LED lighting, good sound, good battery life, USB type C charging, a nice battery indicator, water and dust proof, and an overall great looking speaker then I highly recommend this thing.

New look but ditches two key features

from TechRadar

The JBL Pulse 4 offers an even more eye-catching look than before with the same excellent sound. The downside, however, is that the Pulse 4 ditches the microphone and 3.5mm aux jack of the previous generation. The JBL Pulse 4 offers an even more eye-catching look than before with the same excellent sound. The downside, however, is that the Pulse 4 ditches the microphone and 3.5mm aux jack of the previous generation. If you don’t care about making calls with your speaker and don’t have any legacy devices that require an aux jack, the JBL Pulse 4 is still a good party speaker.

A mesmerizing light show built into an excellent portable speaker

from Gear Diary

The Pulse 4 puts on a mesmerizing 360º light show, and it produces that great JBL sound that I love. At $249.95, the price may seem a little steep compared to similarly-sized portable speakers that don’t have an LED light show, but if you want a speaker that is as pleasurable to watch as it is...More

The Pulse 4 puts on a mesmerizing 360º light show, and it produces that great JBL sound that I love. At $249.95, the price may seem a little steep compared to similarly-sized portable speakers that don’t have an LED light show, but if you want a speaker that is as pleasurable to watch as it is to listen to, you won’t be disappointed with the JBL Pulse 4.

Powerful audio, impressive LED lights

from PC Magazine

The JBL Pulse 4 is essentially a midsize portable speaker with a waterproof design—you're paying a premium for the LED light show. The JBL Pulse 4 is essentially a midsize portable speaker with a waterproof design—you're paying a premium for the LED light show. For this price, we like the audio output of the Urbanears Ralis and its cool Scandinavian design a little more. For a bit more, we also like the $150 JBL Charge 4 and the $150 Sony SRS-XB32, which both offer varying degrees of powerful audio and outdoor-friendliness—the Sony model even has (far more modest) LEDs of its own. If you're here for the artsy, hypnotic LED light show, however, you'll be hard-pressed to find it paired with a better audio experience than the Pulse 4 offers.

Sounds really good

from JimsReviewRoom

The JBL Pulse 4 is indeed missing several features, no voice assistance, no speakerphone option, no 3.5mm port, no Bluetooth 5.0, no multi-pairing…  Indeed, those can deter you from purchasing. I would say, ask yourself if you’re ok with those features missing. It’s clearly still a well fu...More

It’s clearly still a well functioning speaker from my testing.  The audio was not sacrificed and if anything, sounds really good in my opinion. To help you make that purchase decision, if you value the lights as first priority, then are ok with a 360 degree audio sound signature instead of being direct, this is a great purchase.

Sounds great for its size with good all-round sound

from Pocket-lint

It sounds good, it looks great and the refinements in design make it a brilliant step up from its predecessor. We can't wait to party in the office with this speaker and find out what it's really made of. Lights, sound, party.
