The "1-Minute" Review

TigerVPN won’t blow you away with their features. But if you’re looking for a company that’s socially responsible and provides good security then TigerVPN is a good option. However, if you’re just looking for the fastest VPN with a lot of features, you’re better off looking elsewhere.

What's good

  • Donates 2% to NGO’s
  • Live chat support
  • Good geographic distribution
  • Intuitive, simple UI
  • P2P support
  • Bitcoin payment option

What's bad

  • Few features
  • No kill switch
  • Inconsistent speeds
  • Expensive
  • Only 2 simultaneous connections on the monthly plan

TigerVPN is one of the older VPN services available. It stands out from the crowd by donating a proceed of their profits to NGO’s that care for animals. While supporting a good cause is nice, the quality of the product is always an important consideration. Does their service match up to leading VPNs?

TigerVPN has slightly higher monthly costs than other top-rated VPNs while also offering fewer features. However, if you opt for the annual or three-year plan, you can save yourself quite a bit of money and unlock added features that bring it in line with the competition.

Sadly, there’s no free tier. However, you’ll find a seven-day money-back guarantee if you’d like to try out the service before committing.

Supported Devices

The service includes access to a limited range of apps for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. There are no browser extensions. And, unlike other VPN options, there is no option to install the VPN on your router.

Ease of Use

The apps are straightforward with a simple interface. You’ll find a connection button, location list, favorites panel, and a settings box. Whether you’ve used a VPN service before or not, reviewers believe the UI is clear enough even for beginners to navigate.

With that said, reviewers note that more experienced users might find TigerVPN too simple. There are not many customization options. Reviewers also discovered they could not switch protocols or auto-connect when accessing insecure networks. More importantly, it only offers a kill switch if you’re using Windows.

Simultaneous Connections

If you opt for a monthly plan you only get two simultaneous connections. But if you sign up for a year or more, you can connect up to five devices. The payment structure confused and disappointed reviewers as most other services offer 5 or more connections standard.

Included Features

If you’re looking for a VPN loaded with features, you might want to look elsewhere. TigerVPN offers only a handful, including:

  • OpenVPN protocol support
  • P2P support
  • Payments via Bitcoin
  • Karma Point system

The Karma Point system allows you to earn KP for free by performing a series of actions such as liking the company on Facebook or Tweeting a specific hashtag. Users can then use these points to purchase additional connections.

Privacy and Logging

TigerVPN takes your privacy seriously. Not only does it allow you to pay for your subscription via Bitcoin, but it also does not sell your data to third-party advertisers. And, since they are based in the EU, they are GDPR compliant.

In terms of logging, TigerVPN’s privacy policy states they do not store any activity logs. However, they record some session and other details for service-related purposes. Logged items include:

  • VPN protocol and version
  • Operating system
  • App version
  • Traffic stats
  • Randomized country stats
  • Performance

TigerVPN has around 300 servers in 62 different locations. While not the slowest around, reviewers found mixed results in their speed tests. Some locations -- such as the US and UK -- provided very fast speeds while others were quite slow.

But the app itself is slow to launch and establish a VPN connection as well. PC Mag notes, “That’s annoying and might confuse some users…

You have a variety of support options with TigerVPN. Besides their extensive knowledge base, you can also speak to support immediately using live chat. If you’re not pressed for time, you can also submit a ticket. TigerVPN claims ticket responses take less than 24 hours.

TigerVPN doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles of other VPN providers. Nor does it have competitive pricing.

Because of that Tech Radar states, “... it’s difficult to see why you should choose TigerVPN ahead of the larger competition.”

However, if you’re looking for a more socially conscious option, TigerVPN is the only one based around donating to a good cause. If that’s important to you, then check them out.

What the Critics Are Saying...

So.. No support for Netflix, horrible customer service, high prices, questionable privacy policy, company based in Slovakia(EU). The conclusion is crystal clear: Stay away from this VPN service.

The service is a safe bet for those subscribers who are planning to improve their online protection. Still, the provider needs to reconsider the pricing plans. There are users those who want to become a part of TigerVPN. Yet, they are unable to achieve this goal due to the cost factor.

TigerVPN managed to impress us as one of the few VPNs that was above average in almost every regard - it was very fast, boasts all of the top security protocols, and has a high degree of configuration. It is not as friendly on the wallet, and presents a lot of complexity (however neatly packaged), h...
