The Oontz Angle is yet another addition to the growing Bluetooth portable speaker market. Despite its small size of 13.4 x 6.8 x 7.62 cm (5.3 x 2.7 x 3 inches), weight of 255 grams and relatively low price, reviewers found that it stacked up to more expensive competitors like Jawbone's Jambox in almost every area.
Design-wise the soft touch, rubber-coated plastic enclosure and wavy grill texture give the speakers a fairly industrial feel. The grill comes in comes in a nine different colors from standard black to neon green. What stands out the most, however, is its distinctive triangular design. According to critics, this shape angles the two front-firing speakers slightly upwards, allowing sound to travel slightly better than if it were facing straight forward.
Due to this shape, all of the buttons are on the back. Normally experts find issue with this placement, but iLounge states, "OontZ Angle places them high enough on the rear surface that they’re easy to reach with a finger…" At the bottom are a 3.5mm audio-in jack and a mini-USB port. Critics were a bit turned off by the mini-USB port as most non-Apple devices utilize a micro-USB port instead.
While the sound quality of the speakers didn't blow away reviewers, they generally categorize it as having decent sound for its price point. CNET describes it as playing, "fairly loud, with a reasonable amount of detail and some bass, though not quite enough to keep it from sounding a little thin." Others generally agree with this assessment and go on to add that there is no stereo separation and sound distorts at higher volumes. The Droid Lawyer chimes in, stating, "I've found that these small speakers don't have the ability to carry sound across great distances."
While the product isn't flawless, most critics can recommend this device thanks to its low cost of entry and relatively decent sound. Wireless Speakers Review says, "…the Oontz Angle wireless speaker features a slick design and surprisingly high-quality sound, making it a great choice…"
