What's good
- Affordably priced
- Runs the full version of Windows 8.1
- Great looks and slim design
What's bad
- Low screen resolution
- Lacks extra features
The Lenovo Miix 2, this 8" version, is a Windows tablet that reviews describe as a decent low-cost option for those who want to skip Android or the Apple iPad. It has an attractive and compact design according to Cliff Joseph of PC Advisor, and other reviewers agree including TechSpot's Time Schiesser who praised the use of aluminum as part of its slim design.
This tablet isn’t all about looks, though. It runs the full version of Windows 8.1, so that means you won’t be stuck with mobile-only Windows apps. It can run regular desktop programs, both old and new, so it will essentially allow you to take your desktop with you wherever you go. It can strike a great mix between portability and usability and it has been praised in reviews because of this.
If there is anything bad about the 8" Miix 2, it’s the apparent lack of extra features. According to Michelle Mastin of PC World, this sort of tempers all of the upsides. Brian Fagioli of Beta News also points out that you could probably do better for the money if all you want to do is play games like Angry Birds and watch movies on a tablet.
The one thing all reviewers seem to agree on is that if you’re really determined to get yourself a tablet running Windows, then this model is a strong contender. Even in TechSpot’s review, where the verdict says you should avoid it, its positives are clearly enumerated.
There may be better Windows-powered alternatives, but Beta News summarizes the tablet well in saying, “if you are a business-focused person, with the occasional desire for games and you need a tablet that complements your Microsoft lifestyle, look no further, the Miix 2 8 is it.”
