Cupertino remains king of the wearables market

from The Inquirer

Those who've never used an Apple Watch before will undoubtedly fall in love with the Series 5. Overall, it's an impressive bit of kit; it's capable of accurately tracking a host of workouts with ease as well as provide some great lifestyle features, intuitively, with a premium edge.

A fantastic watch for day to day life

The Apple Watch Series 5 is a great all-around smartwatch. In fact, it’s probably one of the best smartwatches. But I’m actually not convinced it’s the best smartwatch Apple’s ever made (or anyone else for that matter). In fact, I actually think the Apple Watch Series 4 might take that cr...More

The Apple Watch Series 5 is a great all-around smartwatch. In fact, it’s probably one of the best smartwatches. But I’m actually not convinced it’s the best smartwatch Apple’s ever made (or anyone else for that matter). In fact, I actually think the Apple Watch Series 4 might take that crown. While the always-on display of the Series 5 is nice, it’s come at a solid hit to battery life compared to the Series 4. While the official specs often didn’t convey it well, the Series 4 actually easily got 2 full days, sometimes even into the 3rd day.

Compared to past Apple Watches, which delivered then-groundbreaking features like GPS and water-resistance (Series 2), cellular connectivity (Series 3) and medical-grade health features (Series 4), the Series 5 is an incremental upgrade. But Apple has set the bar for smartwatches almost impossibly high — even for itself. Rival smartwatches may have had always-on displays first, but they lag far behind the Series 5 in almost every other way.

A pair of wireless in-ears for the more discerning listener

from TrustedReviews

Overall, the RHA T20 Wireless earphones offer a pretty good package. At £200, they're expensive, putting them within range of genuine true wireless offerings, such as Sony's WF-1000XM3. They offer a good, if not quite up-to-date, feature set, but the real plus here is the audio quality.

The Apple Watch Series 5 is currently the most versatile smartwatch of any on the market. Apple boasts that almost 20,000 apps on the App Store are now compatible with the Apple Watch series. Apple already includes more basic functionality than any other smartwatch running a proprietary OS, but the App Store takes it to the next level. The Watch Series 5 should also receive years of updates, hardware permitting, if Apple's track record with iPhones is anything to go by.

The always-on display is great

Apple's subtly improved watch adds a key overdue feature and improved software with this update, but it remains largely the same great smartwatch as last year.

We took the plunge on Apple Watch Series 5, not knowing what a difference the Always-On display would make. We bought it wondering about battery life and wondering whether that Always-On feature is as much of a big deal as Apple claimed. A month later, we know it is. We know, after continual real-world use, just exactly how it has impacted us —and how frustrated we were after we tried to go back to our Series 4. With a great display, solid battery life, and the enhancements of watchOS 6.1, the Apple Watch Series 5 is as great as ever.

Since its second generation the Apple Watch has been the best smartwatch for the iPhone. But for the Series 5 that’s changed. It’s not just the best smartwatch for the iPhone. The Apple Watch is now a solid reason to buy an iPhone in the first place. The screen being on all the time that was the last piece in the Apple Watch puzzle. What started out as a bit of a let down in 2015 has since been refined, sped up and had meaningful features added to it that make it far more than the sum of its parts.

If you happen to own the Apple Watch Series 4, then it doesn’t make sense to upgrade to the latest version unless you want the always-on display. While the Series 5 has a lot going for it, and with the Apple Watch Series 4 effectively laid to rest; this is a great option for those who are upgrading from a Series 2 or Series 3 device. Also, you get a larger display in comparison with Series 3 and not to forget great health tools like ECG and fall detection.
