The Verge

Now with Dolby Vision and faster performance

from The Verge

I think the Fire TV Cube makes the most sense for people who are just getting started with Amazon’s ecosystem. You’ve really got to want the Cube’s hands-free powers — and its ability to pull double duty as an Alexa speaker when the TV screen is off — for the $120 to be worth it.

The new Cube is zippier and makes the assistant more useful

from The Ambient

The new Fire TV Cube is ultra-fast, supports a huge range of standards and is well-fed with apps. Alexa is more useful, thanks to some of cognitive functions now happening offline, and adding the volume buttons to the remote was a smart move. We just wish the Fire TV UI was more enjoyable to use.

Made me like smart speakers again

The Cube is also the best value among Fire TV and Amazon smart speaker devices. If you’re buying an Amazon smart speaker or streaming device any time soon, it should be this one.

Could one day replace the remote

from TechRadar

The Amazon Fire TV Cube is an intrepid experiment for the future of home entertainment. It nearly finds a way to replace the remote with the sound of your voice, but Alexa’s limitations in natural language understanding – and sometimes basic playback controls – are enough to prevent the Fire TV Cube from killing the remote for good.

Yelling at the TV finally has a purpose

from ZDNet

It's hard to think of a streaming box that checks all the boxes like the Fire TV Cube does. It's a personal assistant, provides voice control for home automation, controls cable boxes and soundboards, has access to Amazon's Fire TV ecosystem, and it costs just $119.

The Fire TV Cube brings Alexa to the living room in a way we've not seen before. And when the voice controls work it feels like magic, whether it's controlling playback and or switching the channel on your cable box. But these controls are uneven across devices and apps, meaning Alexa hasn't dethroned the remote just yet. Hopefully, in time, that will change. For now, it's a nice taste of what's still to come.

CordCutters

A great all-in-one device

from CordCutters

The Amazon Fire TV Cube is a devilishly simple product. It's part Amazon Fire TV — a 4K-capable streaming video device. And it's part Amazon Echo Dot — with Amazon Alexa and microphones and speakers, so it can work independently of (and control) your television and just about anything else connected to it.

Isn't that much better than older models

from Apple Insider

Amazon has continued its trend of "good enough" devices at a relatively low cost, with little panache or flair again in the Amazon Fire TV Cube. If that's okay, and you have no need for iTunes streaming at all, and don't care about the UI jank, it's a bit better at 4 out of 5.

Alexa, hide the remote

from SlashGear

No, I can’t promise that you’ll never pick up a remote control again. Yet with just about all major set-top boxes pushing some sort of voice control, so far Alexa on the Amazon Fire TV Cube seems the most successful at delivering everyday functionality without frustration. Alexa, take a bow.
