Their sound quality is pretty fantastic across the board, with only a slight dip in quality toward the middle of the range. But their excellent bass and high sound projection more than make up for this flaw. Additionally, we really like how the included microphones and drivers do a great job of projecting excellent musical sound and phone call voices in the same small chasses. Furthermore, we’re impressed by the overall battery life contained within the buds and their connecting charging case. Perhaps best of all, these buds have some of the best noise-canceling tech we’ve seen in a set of true wireless earbuds.

The most important aspect of these highly interesting true wireless headphones remains unclear, and that’s the audio performance we can expect at launch. Shown in pre-production form at CES, final sound tuning has yet to be finalised, so we won’t know for sure how they compare with front-running rivals until we have a sample of the finished product in our hands… or rather ears. That said, there’s certainly enough cutting-edge technology on-board to have us eagerly await a final sample, when they launch later this year.

Bassy, but wire free

from Pocket-lint

Given the size of the earpieces the sound is mightily impressive with Technics delivering what you would expect from the company, but this time in a much smaller package.

Noise cancellation, acoustic control chamber design

So far, so good. Of course the crucial missing ingredient is sound quality. Given that the EAH-AZ70W is still undergoing sonic tuning, and was presented to us in pre-production form, we’ll bide our time on this and not rush to judgement. Best to wait for their launch later this year to find out just how successful Technics has been in bringing its signature sound to the true wireless arena.

What Hi-Fi

Smart, compact buds and case design

The Technics EAH-AZ70W wireless earbuds do make a good impression with their smart design and vast feature set – the only (small) blot at a glance is seemingly a shorter battery life than the very best. If that proves to be the only area where they fall short up against the class-leaders, Technics will have a winner on its hands.
