The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is the latest version of the basic Kindle e-book reader from Amazon, and instead of the usual e-ink screen that most people have come to expect on similar devices, this one comes with a touch-enabled Paperwhite display. The Paperwhite display features built-in backlighting and a high-resolution touchscreen panel that makes it useful for reading whether you are in a dark room or in a sunny outdoor location. The screen itself measures 6-inches diagonally and supports multi-tough gestures just like most any touchscreen display found on the market today.
There’s 2GB of available internal storage, which means storage of up to nearly 1,000 books. Speaking of which, there’s also free Amazon cloud storage which can be used to back up books and download them on the go. Using 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, downloads are usually completed in less than a minute’s time.
Charging is facilitated via a built-in USB port and the battery lasts up to 2 months per full charge with up to an hour of reading each day. It may not be the single best device out of all the models available in Amazon’s Kindle family, but for those who have been pining for a Kindle with built-in backlighting, this is definitely the one to get.

- rgoodwin, Know Your MobileAmazon’s Kindle lines of e-readers, like iPods, are kind of synonymous with the whole e-reader concept. Most people think of an eBook and automatically think of Kindle, that’s just the way it is. Amazon knows this, too, and has consistently updated the design of its e-reader device in or...
- Mark Bangs, appPickersLockBox really is one of the most convenient, easy-to-use, and blatantly secure data storage apps for iPhone and iPad, and it receives a very strong recommendation from me.
- Wayne Williams, Beta NewsI’ve only had my Paperwhite for a short while, but already I’m loving it. I’ll be keeping my second generation Kindle because I like the physical keyboard and will use it for making notes on my next novel, but for day-to-day reading, I’ll be permanently attached to the new device, and as I do a lot...
- Jen Edwards, TabletPCReviewIf you've never gotten a Kindle, and have been curious about e-reading, this is definitely the one to get. You don't have to fiddle with book lights or locate yourself next to a lamp, because the Paperwhite is practically perfect in every way, to reference one of my favorite lines from Mary Poppins....
- Madeline Bennett, The InquirerThe Kindle Paperwhite is a great addition to the Amazon ereader stable, with the same impressive battery and e-ink screen but a handy light added to the touch display. But there are a few niggles around the interface and Amazon ecosystem, and we wouldn't say that 3G support in the WiFi+3G model is w...
