The "1-Minute" Review

If recharge speeds, camera features, or water resistance is important to you, the OnePlus 9 Pro brings a bit more to the table than the OnePlug 9. However, these subtle differences come at a premium price some reviewers found hard to justify.

As the name suggests, the OnePlus 9 Pro offers a little bit of extra compared to the standard OnePlus 9 for those who want the whole package. But those additional features come with extra costs too. Are they worth it?

What’s The Same

  • Hole-punch camera
  • Rectangular camera housing
  • Snapdragon 888
  • 8 or 12GB of RAM
  • 128 or 256GB storage
  • 4,500mAh battery
  • Hasselblad partnership

What’s Different

  • The One Plus 9 Pro has a curved display
  • Larger 6.7-inch screen with QuadHD+
  • Quad camera
  • Waterproof rating
  • Variable refresh rate

The One Plus 9 Pro might not seem significantly different from the One Plus 9, but the few differences there are might enough to tip the scales for some.

The One Plus 9 Pro offers faster wireless charging for power users and gamers. An actual waterproof rating also provides improved peace of mind. Finally, the quad-camera gives a few extra features to the photography experience, but the cameras on the One Plus 9 aren’t bad either.

When it comes to raw performance, the two phones perform nearly identically. So if that’s your biggest concern, the more affordable One Plus 9 might be a better choice.

Pocket Lint says, “The OnePlus 9 Pro offers a larger, curved display, variable refresh rate, more capable camera, metal frame and waterproofing over the regular OnePlus 9. It also has faster wireless charging support, but you pay quite a bit extra for those features compared to the regular OnePlus 9.”

Tech Radar states, “However, for those looking to spend less, the OnePlus 9 still gives you top-notch performance and a solid camera. Indeed, the differences only become readily apparent when you use these two phones side by side, which most people simply won’t be in a position to do.”

What the Critics Are Saying...

Android Central

The OnePlus 9 Pro gets almost everything right. A smaller, more manageable body, stellar cameras, a big, bright OLED screen, standout performance, and subtle improvements to its design. Subpar battery life and 5G quibbles hold it back, but it wins out in key areas against the 10 Pro.

- Harish Jonnalagadda, Android Central

The OnePlus 9 Pro’s battery performance was below average in terms of autonomy and efficiency; however, it comes with a fast charger and offers a very good charging experience.

After using the OnePlus 9 Pro daily for quite some time, it has become my new daily use phone for business. I love the build quality and the sleek and sexy look. I once jumped out of my truck and it fell out of my back pocket and onto the road with the glass facing the road but sustained no damage....

As an expensive flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 9 Pro has a lot to offer. It is built really well and has an excellent display, a relatively clean and minimal UI, great performance, good cameras, decent battery life, and fast charging. The main issue with the phone comes down to the software. It al...

In a lot of ways, the OnePlus 9 Pro is still one of the best phones ever from the brand. It offers flagship specs, a killer design, a legitimately great camera, and still comes with a charger in the box — and what a charger it is! Even six months after its debut, it’s a killer phone.
