If you are looking for a fun, capable flip phone, take a look at the Nokia 6555.

Simple and straightforward, the Nokia 6555 is built for folks who want a “phone”, but would like some extras in case they feel like experimenting.

Available in black, silver, red and beige, this clamshell sports a good quality 2.0 inch 240x320 pixel screen that displays crisp text and tight, colorful icons. The keypad is large enough to accommodate almost any size fingers and using T9 texting is swift and sure. It also includes Bluetooth 2.0 so you can take advantage of the new line of headsets.

With the Nokia 6555 you can send text messages, multi-media messages, email, take pictures, listen to music and surf the web via its WAP browser. It also comes with an often over-looked but always appreciated 2.5mm jack, so you can use a high quality set of headphones should you decide to make use of the MP3 player.

The Nokia 6555 has a rated talk time of six hours and a standby time of 260 hours.

Compact but not crunched down, the Nokia 6555 offers customers a middle-tier feature set with a durable attractive casing.

It's an attractive phone that looks and feels more expensive than it is. This handset certainly won't be all things to all people, but its feature set seldom leaves you wanting for more.

The midrange clamshell Nokia 6555 offers standard equipment and above-its-class elegance. Other than the looks, the two quality screens and the comfortable keypad are indisputable advantages. As to functionality, there are no surprises. But then, the price tag promises none. The downright drawbacks are the lack of FM radio, the 1.3 megapixel camera and the thrifty retail box.
Today's market seems flooded with handsets of similar functionality, so Nokia 6555 is in for a challenge. The clamshell design and the attractive looks will be the key features to set it apart. Even inside the Nokia family, it will be facing serious competition. Nokia 6131 continues to enjoy good demand, while 6267 offers a 2MP camera with LED flash, music player controls on the flip, video calling, VGA video recording and FM radio. It does lack however the finesse of Nokia 6555.
Nokia 6555 is already available in all of its color versions. Maybe underpowered here and there, Nokia 6555 still has the attraction of affordability, style and 3G.

Looks and feels more expensive than it is

from MobileBurn

Overall I like the 6555. It's an attractive phone that looks and feels more expensive than it is. This handset certainly won't be all things to all people, but its feature set seldom leaves you wanting for more. While I tend to not like the clamshell form factor, I recognize that it has its benefits over the candybar configuration, and the 6555 capitalizes on this. When open, the handset was comfortable and felt natural to use, and will surely appeal to people who dislike phones that don't place the microphone close to their mouth. And what's not to like about a reasonably priced 3G handset...

And what's not to like about a reasonably priced 3G handset?

The things I liked least about the 6555 weren't deal breakers from my perspective. The memory card slot buried beneath the battery really isn't so horrible, and though disappointing, it's hard to fault the camera on such an inexpensive phone, especially when so much else is so right. As is typical with lower priced phones, the built in camera is a nice thought, and handy in a pinch, but it certainly won't be your first choice for capturing precious memories. If a more versatile built in camera is needed, then perhaps you should look elsewhere. But for being an affordable, solid 3G phone, the 6555 gets a "Recommended" rating.

Stupidest keyboard layout in the history of text messaging. There is NO DELETE KEY. No backspace. No erase key. The manual says to press the "clear" key, but nowhere does it explain what this key is. Online, I find references to using a "softkey" to backspace, but when I use the right softkey as described, it merely skips over a letter without deleting it. In short, you'd better be an expert typist on this tiny keyboard, because if you hit the wrong key or time your typing wrong, you are out of luck. You have to be perfect every time. Stupid, stupid, stupid design. Less

Awful phone

Very strange phone this, the loudspeaker is terrible. Crank it up to hear music or speech and it distorts horribly. Good features, texting is good, earphones sound ok but overall not a nice phone.

Phone is long and slim, and I've kept it in my pants' pocket since I got it and have no problems... almost two years now (will be in Oct. '09). Scuffing and scratching on the casing, but that's to be expected. My g/f has the same phone and the exterior screen cracked recently in her purse, possibly against keys or such. Phone still works fine for her, though. I'd recommend this phone and if you experience any of these problems, get it returned. If you want a phone for talking (i get great battery out of this... hours of talk time in horrible locations) and simple, infrequent texting, this is the one for you. Less

This phone is small but long, which I like. It has a solid feel to it. Love the way I can program the keys to do what I want. The battery life on a charge is an issue. My phone's mini screen goes dark after only 10 seconds. My #1 & #7 keys do not turn the phone off, I have them set for speed dial and use them everyday. My phone has never shut off by itself. The screens are bright and the pictures crisp. I like this phone so much, I am on this site looking for a new one for the day in the future when this one no longer works. Less

I love the phone...when I don't have to use it. I made a 911 call at the scene of an accident where someone was injured and it shut down in the middle of the conversation. It shut down another time during an important conversation with a customer service rep (you know those calls- where you have to wait 10 minutes before someone comes on) so I had to call back. It will shut down in the middle of typing a text. The best reason I've come up with is that I am faster than the phone. Meaning if I flip open the phone and start typing away, it tends to shut down because it needs a minute to realize I need it to do something. Like today, I had to retype a text 3 times in a row for this reason. Aggravating. This has never happened with any other phone I have owned. Also, I agree the battery life is not as great as my phones have been in the past. If I power it up completely then go into a multi-hour concert or day trip, I have to be frugal with my usage because it will reach a low battery level before you know it. I've had Nokia phones since 2000 and this one is a big disappointment. Less

I don't know that I need to repeat what others have already stated - the phone is absolutely horrendous. Constant dropped calls, random shut offs, bulky form factor, you name it. Nokia should be ashamed to manufacture this device and AT&T should be ashamed to market it. BUT, I do believe that I have fixed the stupid random shut offs! The phone shuts off randomly because of the extremely poor design of the battery housing. The battery is too loose and simple actions like opening the phone - or even the vibrate feature activating - cause it to shut off. I fixed this by taking a kleenex, tearing a chunk of it out and using it to wedge the battery into place so that it wouldn't constantly slip away from the contacts. I did this two weeks ago and I haven't had a random shut down since. I'm looking forward to replacing this piece of junk soon, but until then I can at least rest easily knowing that the phone won't randomly shut down on me for no reason. Unless, of course, one counts the miniscule battery and battery meter that doesn't even get close to what's actually remaining. Less
