The Motorola Hint is the best choice for MetroPCS and Cricket texters who want to listen to music and watch videos on their phones—provided they don't make a lot of calls.

MobileBurn

Capable little delight

from MobileBurn

Once you open it up, however, the nicely laid out 4 row QWERTY keyboard takes the center stage. The keys are a bit stiff, perhaps, but it is very usable. The 2.5-inch QVGA resolution display is more than adequate for the job at hand, but Motorola's user interface does fall a bit short at times, lacking the polish that users expect in today's market. But polish or no, the phone is plenty usable and fun.

In terms of capabilities, the QA30 Hint features 3G data, a 2 megapixel camera, and a music player application that has its own dedicated key. A 3.5mm headphone port up top is also quite useful since the Hint can support microSDHC(INFO) cards as large as 8GB in size (not included).

Call audio on the Hint was quite good in general, though the speakerphone put in just an average performance. We didn't really get a chance to test out the battery life on the device, but Motorola claims it should be good for up to 4 hours of talk time. 3G data came through well on the phone, since its signal reception appeared to be pretty good....

An unusual-looking texting phone

from PC Magazine

The Hint is odd-looking, but not hideous. Closed, the 4.2-ounce phone is very rectangular, measuring 3.2 by 2.4 by 0.7 inches (HWD). It has a 2.5-inch, 320-by-240-pixel screen, a big cursor pad, and several buttons on the front, including a dedicated music button. Slide the screen up to reveal a small QWERTY keypad with extremely pointy keys, like little mountains—designed to help you type in view of the keyboard's reduced size. There are dedicated messaging, speakerphone, camera, and WAP-browser buttons along the bottom. ...

The Motorola Hint QA30 is just the ticket for messaging fiends who want to take advantage of MetroPCS's unlimited plans, and the strong MP3 and video playback features are nice bonuses. But since the Hint isn't a great voice phone, it's more for folks who text more than they talk

Bought this phone on ebay, brand new in the sealed plastic and I have ZERO complaints after owning it for 3 months. After you get used to the keyboard (which was not easy because of the size) and the way the phone works, it's about as close as you can get to smart phone without the hefty price associated. My wife has a Blackberry and even she is jealous at some of the things that can be done. Shut off issues are mainly because of a loose battery cover and when you change things on the phone like the wallpaper, you have to restart it. Pros: does everything you want and more Cons: Learning curve and patience a must! As with any electronic device...pull the power (battery) and count to ten before you freak out! Less

I've had my Hint for over a year now and totally love it. The keyboard is great because of their pointed designed keys make sure you get the letters/numbers right. No problems with power or display. I actually use it as my main mp3 player every day and am impressed with the ease of use - especially the dedicated key for music..quick and simple. I recommend it in a second.

WORST PHONE EVER!!!!!!!!

This has been the worst phone I have ever had in my lifetime. I should have just kept my dinosaur flip phone. The only good thing I can say about this phone is that i like slide effect. Using experience: 26 days I got this phone about 25 days ago, and have not been impressed yet! I love to text, and thought it would be great for doing that. But it turns out it is so slow!, and it can't keep up to my texting! Anything you do on it, it's slow! The keys are way too small, and I don't like the rigid keys one bit! It also keeps freezing, shutting off on me, and turns white. I am not one to drop/abuse my phone either. The battery does not last very long either. I would not recommended this phone to anybody!! They only thing I love on this phone is the conversations, and how many texts it can hold! I am taking it back and getting a different one asap! Less

Reg. size headphone jack Con: streaming video quality sucks even with hi-def stream, can not save sounds from browser, random shut-off in calls and texts, not compatable with a lot of apps from the store Using experience: 1 years I have had this phone for a little over a year. all in all its a great phone. the bad part is the fact that i had to get a replacement for "totally random" shut offs. verizon tech support says it was a glitch in the early models, and since i have recived the updated software it hasn't happened. great phone if all you want to do on the web is update status' on facebook/myspace etc.. only loads whole websites zoomed out and when you zoom in, the website makes no sense. GREAT MP3 PHONE. if you like your music on your phone, this has great sound quality and easy music navigation. all in alll its a pretty good phone. Less

Its like a hot girlfriend, looks nice :) but comes with alot of headaches :(

Every negative thing I have read about this phone is true. I purchased one about 4 months ago and the only positive thing I can say about the phone is it looks good.

BAD PHONE

On our 3rd phone. Waiting on a new one to be shipped (#4) Very unreliable. Turns off on its own. Registers more than 1 message when received. Celltop automatically turns on when phone slid open. Alltell will only replace with the same phone. Hope Verizon will do better. Does the Lemon Law apply to phones?

This phone is the number one, yes number ONE, worst phone EVER. I have had multiple problems with it. If you get past a certain contact in your memory, it will shut off, and if you drop it the right way it will actually shut your text message system down. I have to take the battery out and put it back in at least six times a day. I would STRONGLY discourage purchasing this phone; it is a complete and utter waste of money. Less
