What's bad

Jabra has built a name on the quality of its wireless headsets, but their latest release tackles a new market -- truly wireless earbuds. In a market dominated by Apple’s AirPods, does Jabra bring enough to stand out with their latest wire-free attempt?

Unlike many other truly wireless designs, the Jabra Elite 65t earbuds are rather unassuming. Simple grey and black pods with a minimal mic boom and no latex wings or ear hooks. There are two buttons -- one in the center of each earbud -- and a compact, matte-finish carrying case. The earbuds are compact and sleek enough for active use. But they wouldn’t be out of place in the office or boardroom either.

Capable of 5 hours on a charge, reviewers had no issues with battery life during commutes or workouts. The case offers 2 more charges, for a total of 15 hours before you have to search out a charging cable. For quick top-offs, the case offers 90 minutes worth of charge in 15 minutes.

On the sound front, reviewers found the default sound profile well balanced with enough bass to be present but not overwhelming. The optional Sound+ app from Jabra unlocks a five-channel equalizer and advanced controls for those looking to tweak the audio experience further.

Connecting through Bluetooth 5, reviewers found connections reliable -- both between the earbuds and to the device in use. They also noticed no delay when watching video -- a common complaint with truly wireless earbuds.

The controls on each earbud offer easy access to media controls and voice assistant features. But they are true buttons, not touch controls. So activating the button requires pushing the earbud deeper into your ear canal. Some reviewers found this uncomfortable while others didn’t mind. Ultimately, it will be a matter of preference.

While there are no active noise cancellation options, the tight fit for the earpieces and the array of tips included in the package makes it easy to create excellent sound isolation. There’s also a HearThrough mode available through the app that uses the mics to allow in ambient noise if you prefer more awareness of your surroundings.

Speaking of mics, each bud includes a dual mic array. Reviewers rated call quality high -- though some had issues in particularly noisy or crowded environments.

Overall, reviewers raved about the earbuds. The Wirecutter made it their pick for Best Wireless Earbuds as of August 2018, saying, “The Jabra Elite 65t is the first set of true wireless earbuds that we actually love enough to make our overall earbuds pick.” Engadget says, “Headphones don't need to be flashy, especially if they sound great. They need to be comfortable, sound good and stay connected -- and Jabra checks all three boxes.”
