There have been many attempts at making a good budget Android tablet, and most companies who have tried to move in that direction have fallen flat on their faces. Many of the failed products were priced to low to even carry halfway decent specs. That is not the case with the Nextbook Premium9. Or at least, the plan is to offer an entry-level option that doesn’t disappoint. With that in mind, what’s the verdict on it as a tablet?
The Premium9 comes with a rather unorthodox 9-inch multi-touch color LCD. It features a native resolution of 1280x800 pixels, which makes it capable of showing standard HD content with ease. Now, if you find that the 9-inch HD screen is worthy of celebration, then go right ahead and celebrate, because the rest of the specs seem to run downhill from there.
There’s a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor to take care of computing duties, and onboard there is 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The built-in camera is fitted with a 2-megapixel sensor and can record low quality video in either MP4 or 3GP. It does have Wi-Fi and support for external storage cards, but then again, so does every other Android tablet in its price range.
If all you’re after is an Android tablet with a nice high-resolution screen and are willing to forget about the rest of the rather under-powered specs, a outside case can be made for why the Premium9 is an excellent choice. However, you’d better set your sights elsewhere if you’re after a good overall package.

What the Critics Are Saying...
- Carter Dotson, TouchArcadeDrift'n'Drive is quite the fun chaotic top-down racing game. I was intrigued by the game when I saw a GIF of it in action with a whopping 32-car field, and it looked like something I had to play. And it lived up to my expectations. It's very much an arcade-like experience. The cars auto-accelerate,...
