The Archos 80 ChildPad is yet another Android-powered tablet in a sea of devices. What sets it apart are the design and features which, according to Archos, are filtered for kids in order to provide content that is best suited to them.
If you take away the custom case with bright orange highlights on the 80 ChildPad, you’ll be left with what is essentially a basic Android tablet with entry-level specs. Apart from the 8-inch touchscreen -- which has a native resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels -- its standout features include a 2-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of storage, and a 1GHz dual core processor.
The design definitely makes it look like a child's toy, while the software has been modified to include Parental Control features as well as a filterable version of the Google Play store. User reviews indicate that these are all useful changes that make the Archos 80 ChildPad easy and enjoyable for kids to use. The problem is that the tablet seems to run into snags that end up causing frustration.
A number of user reviews can be found online from people complaining about faults, particularly concerning insufficient memory for apps and batteries that are either easily drained or won't charge at all. Overall the consensus is that this is a disappointing device.
