The Watch GT 2e is definitely a great smartwatch to have if you are already using a Huawei smartphone or at least willing to give its ecosystem a chance. It is quick, good-looking, easy to navigate - it covers all the essential features. Having another ecosystem on the phone might be troublesome for a certain group of users, but with so many modern phones arriving with 128GB (or more) internal storage, this is far less of an issue.

You can rely on the Watch GT 2e to be more of a solid workout and activity companion, rather than an all-around smartwatch, which is really what it aims to be. It delivers on the promises and does the job with consistency and an extremely long battery life. With 100 workout modes, accurate heart-rate and blood oxygen level readouts, as well as long-lasting battery, we believe the Watch GT 2e is worthy of being our Best Choice recommendation for a fitness smartwatch on Android smartphones, all at an attractive price.

One of the best smartwatches you can buy

A worthy design upgrade from its predecessor, the Watch GT 2e carries over the same great features like an impressive two-week battery life, big and bright touchscreen, automatic activity and sleep tracking, as well as health features like a pulse- and SpO2 oximeter. Granted, it omits GT 2's speaker for Bluetooth calling, but feels a bit more comfortable to wear, has greatly improved navigation ergonomics, and, last but not least, looks cool on the wrist, making it one of the best smartwatches you can buy, and not only in its sub-$200 club.

The limitations of the iOS app will rule out the GT 2e as an option for iPhone users, who are better served by the Apple Watch Series 3 or Series 5 at any rate, but it is an intriguing option for Android users. Its relative lack of smart features is made up for by excellent battery life and solid sports, sleep and activity tracking – all for £160.

Pocket-lint

One watch to track it all

from Pocket-lint

It may not be the perfect smartwatch, but as a fitness tracking watch the Watch Gt2e is very versatile and the data available in the Health app is in-depth and easy to understand. It's also not hideously expensive. For the money, it's great.

A good, solid watch with plenty of metrics and insights

There’s a lot to like about the Huawei Watch GT2e, especially for runners who get a good, solid watch with plenty of metrics and insights. The Firstbeat advanced analytics will be a firm favourite – and it excels at workout tracking, although we’d like more options to hand off data to existing platforms. However, we found the iOS app quite under-baked, it’s not challenging the likes of Fitbit for wellness and health tracking – although sleep was a highlight. Android users will fare better, and for the price the GT2e offers good value for money.

The choice between the GT 2 and GT 2e comes down the personal preference, but I do prefer the sportier look and feel of the new version and you do get more RAM. The Huawei Health app remains a good, feature-rich fitness assistant, especially for those who own a Huawei or Honor smartphone.

In essence, the GT 2e is more of a fitness tracker disguised as a smartwatch. It doesn’t have a selection of third-party apps, and only supports the most basic of notifications, without letting you reply to messages. And that’s okay. If you want a bonafide smartwatch, there are plenty of other options out there. Instead, the GT 2e serves up impressive health and fitness tracking smarts, in a basic smartwatch package - all at a price that won’t destroy your wallet. Throw in the fact that you barely have to worry about charging it, and you’ve got yourself a very strong contender for your next fitness tracker.

Huawei's smartwatches aren't usually all that smart, but they pack enough fitness features to satisfy beginner and intermediate athletes. The Huawei Watch GT 2e is the company's latest watch geared towards the fitness crowd.
