Neowin

A cool vision of the future plagued by too many missteps

from Neowin

The look and feel of the watch, despite being a little bulky, are still great. The software on its own is also pretty decent, and I like its overall design and the attention to some of the little details, such as moving the interface up and down along the screen, the filters in the camera app, and some other things. But it's that kind of attention that makes it especially frustrating that nubia failed to nail down many of the basics of the functionality of a smartwatch. The duplicate notifications, the buggy and limited fitness tracking, and the lack of any kind of software ecosystem for developers make it very hard to recommend the Alpha to just about anyone, especially at the very high asking price of $450.

Weird flexible smartwatch

from Tech Advisor

It’s wild over-ambition that really lets the Nubia Alpha down. If the company had just rocked up to MWC with a flexible OLED smartwatch, we might have been impressed, but the Alpha tries - and fails - to be so much more. It wants to replace your phone - it won’t. It wants to redefine smartwatch controls - it won’t. It even wants to give you ‘limitless hyper-dimensional interaction’ - actually, maybe it does do that last one, I honestly have no idea what it even means.

Big, bold and utterly bizarre

from Pocket-lint

It's hard to see the need for Nubia's Alpha in today's market, especially given its price. Just on first impressions, it's probably safe to assume you'll be better off with an Apple Watch if you want a versatile, fully functioning watch and have the option for calls/messages etc. While we really...More

It's hard to see the need for Nubia's Alpha in today's market, especially given its price. Just on first impressions, it's probably safe to assume you'll be better off with an Apple Watch if you want a versatile, fully functioning watch and have the option for calls/messages etc. While we really like the wrist-band built and the way it feels, the actually watch face is big, bulky and doesn't seem to fit a consumer need at all.

Digital Trends

Only the most geeky need apply

from Digital Trends

The Alpha is exactly what we want from Nubia. It’s weird, oddly compelling, technically quite impressive, features elements that don’t work as described and that need fixing before release, and isn’t like anything else on sale. None of this is a reason to rush out and buy it, but we’re glad it exists.
