Tom's Guide

Powerful sound and reliable noise neutralization in a clean, ultramodern design

from Tom's Guide

While they don't rise to the standard set by Bose and Sony, the Microsoft Surface Headphones are a pleasant surprise with solid sound and noise cancellation.

Simple in look and sophisticated in function but suboptimal in practice

I still feel drawn toward these headphones, I enjoy listening to my music with them, and I’m constantly impressed by the speed with which they connect to my devices and the rock-solid stability of their connection. The volume and NC control dials are just a dream to use. But I don’t find them comfortable enough, their sound is a touch too unserious for my tastes, and their battery life is too limiting.

If you’re a Microsoft power user, I can see how you might pay for the brand over the features. Maybe you won’t have as much trouble getting Cortana to work as I did, and the Surface Headphones will work better in an all-Microsoft ecosystem. For everyone else just looking for a great set of noise-canceling headphones, though, look elsewhere.

Look, feel, and sound as premium as their price tag

from Wired

If you’re looking to go wireless, live in the US or UK, and like what Microsoft is doing with its Surface computers, you may be exactly the kind of person who could make the most of the Surface Headphones. Everyone else, keep an eye on these. They may not be your top choice right now, but they're definitely a good one.

Cnet

Almost great

from Cnet

The Surface Headphones don't quite match Bose and Sony noise-canceling headphones, but they're a strong freshman effort with some compelling feature and design elements.

Comfortable with awesome audio, but noise cancellation needs work

from WPCentral

The Surface Headphones bring outstanding sound to your PC or smartphone with some intelligent features that separate them from the competition. While they fall short on noise cancellation, they're still excellent.

Engadget

A good first try

from Engadget

Microsoft made a solid first attempt at building high-quality noise-cancelling headphones. These are comfortable and fit on even the biggest heads. Just beware that Cortana integration seems to entail a trade-off in battery life.
