Amazon’s taken a far more serious storage to audio and video on the device but I’m not sure Echo Show really provides a killer app. It’s fantastic for video conferencing — as long as you use Skype. If you don’t, you might have to start. The 10-inch screen is just a bit easier to see from across the room.

But that big, crisp 10.1in screen makes for a good digital photo frame, excellent kitchen helper and a solid smart home controller, particularly if you have any compatible smart cameras or doorbells you want to view without digging out your phone.
Still, for now, you’ve got a great evolution of what Alexa can offer made manifest in the Echo Show. On most fronts, it’s superior to the other Echo options - so it’s well-worth the extra expense if you’re already committed to the ecosystem and comfortable letting another front-facing camera into your home.

The new Echo Show improves on the original in just about every way. But, for us, it still doesn’t do enough to make the screen an indispensable feature. Sound quality is a lot better than other Echos, but you can plug an Echo Dot into your own speakers for a fraction of the price.

With its larger screen and powerful sound, the Amazon Echo Show (2nd Gen) is the smart display for watching content as well as controlling your home.

Compared to the first generation, this new one is undoubtedly an improvement: better design, improved sound quality (after a bit of help) and a nicer screen. But it still doesn’t feel like the finished article and the way it uses that display remains unconvincing.

The Echo Show is a super additional device for a kitchen or communal space, while the audio has been given a much-needed boost. There are some foibles - such as lack of YouTube, a slightly reflective display, and some skills lacking screen-based optimisation - but all-round the second-gen Show is a notable improvement.

A big step in the right direction thanks to a better design, screen, sound experience and feature set. The Show is still hampered by patchy skills and limited support for third party streaming services, but if you’re a Prime Video fan living in a smart home full of Echos, you should definitely check it out.

The Echo Show is an excellent example of a smart product that can provide a respectable audio and visual experience at the same time. And the good news is, it's only going to get smarter.
