The Wirecutter

Action on a budget

from The Wirecutter

This Chinese newcomer delivers 90 percent of the Hero5 Black’s functionality at around half the price, for those on a budget who don’t need waterproofing.

Talk Android

A little beast of an action camera

from Talk Android

The YI 4K Action Camera is your run-of-the-mill action camera because there’s nothing about it that blows you away. It’s really just a cheaper GoPro-like device made by another company, which is totally fine. YI waited for others to spend a large amount of time and money on developing action cameras before it inserted itself into the conversation, meaning its own action camera doesn’t have to be priced high to make up for development. While the software bugs are a little odd, it’s not a deal breaker. So, if you’re looking for an affordable action camera capable of 4K video but don’t want to go with a shady brand, YI’s offering is for you.

GoPro should be worried

from Android Police

When I accepted the invitation to compare the Yi 4K to the GoPro Hero4 Black I was very skeptical. There are a lot of cheap GoPro imitators out there, and most of them are garbage. I honestly thought that the Yi was going to be trounced by the more expensive, and far better known, GoPro. Those preconceived prejudices began to crumble within just a few hours of using both cameras. This little camera is excellent. It doesn't perform as well as its pricier competitor, it performs better.

el Producente

An awesome camera

from el Producente

Touchscreen navigation works really smooth and the structure of the menu is very logical. I like the “quick menu” when swiping down to get quick access to turn on/off WiFi and Bluetooth. You can quickly turn them on when needed or off to save battery life without browsing the whole menu.

Gizmo China

Challenges the GoPro camera for half the price

from Gizmo China

The device is lightweight, the display is sharp, the UI is fast and easy to use, the WiFi is fast and the camera works fine with the YI Action app. Also, the battery life is great.
The video and image quality are great too. Sure, the camera could be slightly better in low-light situations but this is probably the only shortcoming we can mention.
