Roku's redesigned middle child is back and faster than ever

from TechRadar
The new Roku 2 is easily one of the best devices the purple-loving company has given us to date. And while it's not blemish free (but really, what is?), it's hard to complain much when the result is a better product with updated specs and an unchanged price tag. Whether you've yet to pick up a streaming set-top box or are in for an upgrade, now's the time - and this is a fine place to start... Full review

A nearly perfect mix of speed, features, price and ecosystem

from Cnet

The other streaming platforms have a few advantages over Roku, especially if you care about gaming, need captive portal access or must have an exclusive app. And if you're all in with Apple's or Amazon's ecosystem, you'll probably be happier sticking with one of those devices. For almost everyone else, Roku's platform is the best. The main question is which Roku to buy. You can definitely save some money with an older Roku like the Streaming Stick or Roku 1, but I think its worth paying a bit more for a faster Roku. On the other hand, I don't think it's worth paying more for the Roku 3 over... Full review

This affordable, top spec streamer is an absolute no-brainer

from What Hi-Fi
We’ve long been fans of the Roku way. Its mix of usability and good, unbiased content is an alluring proposition. And now that you get top spec for less money, it’s a no-brainer. Stream away!.. Full review

Does the basics well and doesn’t cost too much

from TrustedReviews
The Roku 2 works well, but lacks the unique features of its predecessor, or the Roku 3. If you just want a Netflix, YouTube and catch-up TV box then you won’t be disappointed. If you want more, then try the Roku 3 or Amazon Fire TV instead... Full review

Superior performance and extraordinary HD video quality

from Examiner
Now, the absence of the in-ear earphones may convince some consumers to purchase the higher priced Roku 3 or a competing streaming device. In fact, one professional reviewer recommended Roku’s Streaming Stick over the Roku 2. But for this review, the Roku 2 is an unequivocal recommendation and at $69.99 is an excellent alternative to the higher priced Roku 3 and a much better buy than the Streaming Stick. After hours of testing the new Roku 2, it most deservedly earns a perfect five star rating for this review... Full review

Yet another decent media streaming box from the market leader

from PC Advisor
The Roku 2 is yet another decent media streaming box from the market leader and we like the new Roku Search and MyFeed features. However, these are available on the other Rokus and the slightly high price means you'll want to pay the extra for the better remote which comes with the Roku 3 or save money by getting the similar Streaming Stick... The Gadget Show

Offers a faster UI and plenty of options over its predecessors

from The Gadget Show
The new and improved Roku 2 definitely brings the value of the Roku 3 into question, giving you equally speedy performance at a lower price point, but we feel Roku’s downgraded the whole package to give its top-end model a clear advantage. Amazon’s Fire TV Stick offers even better value though, but if you’re a Roku fan and want to upgrade or stick with the ecosystem, this year’s box offers a faster UI and plenty of options over its predecessors... A capable entertainer

from Alphr
Despite this, if you can live without the nifty features afforded by the Roku 3’s souped-up remote control, the Roku 2 is a capable entertainer. You get the same library of streaming services and the same slick interface as its pricier sibling; for £70, that’s not to be sniffed at... Full review

Well-designed good-looking little black box

from Mirror
If all you're interested in is being able to get Netflix on another telly, then it's a much better bet to go with a cheaper streaming stick like the Google Chromecast. But if you're happy to spend a little bit more for a much wider experience (the Roku 2 player also has access to a load of rudimentary video games) then this is one of the best choices out there. Additionally, it's a well-designed good-looking little black box that's a bit larger than a hockey puck and sits nicely alongside most TVs. So it's got looks, brains and brawn - what's not to like?.. PC Magazine

Offers loads of streaming services and fast performance

from PC Magazine
Roku's updated $70 media hub is a functional device with loads of online services and features, but the removal of the headphone jack from the remote is too high a price to pay for the speed boost over the previous Roku 2. It was one of the more unique and compelling aspects of the older device, and without it the Roku 2's price tag doesn't seem particularly compelling next to less expensive options like Roku's own Streaming Stick and the Amazon Fire TV Stick...
