It wasn’t useful enough for me to want to continue using and wearing it

I tried to like the LG G Watch. I do think it’s a decent entry level Android Wear watch and I had fun trying it out. But it wasn’t useful enough for me to want to continue using and wearing it. I know there’s a good sized market for Android Wear watches, but I don’t fit it. My phone is always either in my hand, next to me on my desk, or in my pocket. I don’t need to buy an extra device to show me all the same info that I can see on my phone and I definitely don’t want another device that I have to charge. I don’t know if I’m in the minority or the majority with this opinion though.

Nice enough but has massive room for improvement

Android Wear has not changed or improved my life in any way in the last one week of usage. As of the time of this post, it’s nothing more than Google Now on your wrist, which might not really be very appealing, depending on where you live.

Take for example: where I live (India), Google Now doesn’t really provide me with information that’s so important that I’d want quicker access to it. Sure, driving directions come in handy when I’m navigating somewhere, I don’t really have to use Google Maps navigation often in my daily routine. Similarly, it is nice to have TrueCaller on your wrist so when new phone numbers call you, you (often) know who it is, but this is a scenario that is specific to me (or other people that get a lot of phone calls from new numbers).

All in all, my usage has actually been very similar to my Pebble. Which isnt great, because Android Wear costs so much more. Hopefully Android Wear will get more functionality soon. Because right now Android Wear v1.0 doesnt really do much.

A solid foundation for what's to come

The LG G Watch is one of only two Android Wear devices on the market. The Gear Live puts up stiff competition with it’s different design, heart rate monitor, and lower price point, but I still feel that the LG G Watch is the best one you can buy, for now. With other options from HTC and ASUS possibly coming in the future, it’ll be interesting to see how they differ. However many are still looking forward to the Moto 360 which will definitely top the G Watch and Gear Live in every aspect but one, price. If you aren’t waiting for the 360 and have a budget around $230, I’d definitely recommend the G Watch. It’s definitely got room to improve, but it’s a solid option for your hard earned cash.
