If you live in the US and don’t mind settling for the relatively old iPhone 3G in order to save a few bucks on your next handset purchase, you might want to check out AT&T.

Following in the footsteps of Fido in Canada, AT&T is now selling refurbished iPhone 3G units at ridiculously low prices. How low? Does $49 for the 8GB iPhone 3G or $99 for the 16GB variant sound good enough for you? Sure, these may not exactly be brand new inventory and requires you to sing-up for a 2-year contract with AT&T, but as far as pricing goes, this is the lowest we’ve seen the iPhone 3G get priced in the US. Of course, you won’t be able to enjoy a built-in compass, video recording, and faster performance all of which are all dependent on the iPhone 3G S’ new hardware, but for the most part, you can still get its other new and improved features courtesy of iPhone 3.0 firmware.

Personally, I’d still choose the iPhone 3G S over the iPhone 3G, but at this new all-time low prices, I have to admit, it’s hard not to get tempted.
