BenQ has been out of the spotlight for the past several months, but their new BenQ Royal phone might just be the one to get them right into the thick of things.

According to the latest news, the BenQ Royal has managed to snag the iF Product Design Award for 2009. We’re not exactly sure what other phones were in the running for the title, but hey, the voting’s over and BenQ’s new phone has won the award. Apart from that recognition, the BenQ also sports a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera and a touch-sensitive area at the back cover which helps users flip e-book pages, and browse through photos and music files more easily. It’s a truly unique innovation, but we’re waiting on the early reviews to surface first before we pass judgment on this novel idea.

Sadly, though, that’s all we know about it for now. Further details regarding its specs, price and availability are yet to be known. However, considering the media publicity the BenQ Royal has been receiving lately, we wouldn’t be surprised if BenQ gives a full disclosure on this new smartphone within the next couple of months.
