RIM has officially announced their app store, the BlackBerry App World.

It isn’t live yet, but they have, however, disclosed some important details that you should know if you're planning to avail of this mobile application store. Only BlackBerry phones with a trackball or SurePress (read: BlackBerry Storm) running on OS 4.2 or higher are compatible with the BlackBerry App World. You'll also need to have a Paypal account as this will serve as their payment gateway.

We still don’t know when it will officially open its doors to consumers, but if you want to be one of the first to know when it does, you can register now for the BlackBerry App World. The name certainly sounds intimidating, but we’ll wait for their first year of app sales to come out first before we even consider this as a serious threat to Apple’s pioneering App Store.
