Now that the Android OS is officially out of the door, it seems that Open Handset Alliance is getting some added support from 14 new companies.

AKM Semiconductor Inc., ARM, ASUSTek, Atheros, Borqs, Ericsson, Garmin, Huawei, Omron Software, Softbank, Sony Ericsson, Teleca AB, Toshiba and Vodafone have all recently joined the Open Handset Alliance with others no doubt following suit in the near future. This is definitely good news for the Alliance, and for us consumers, who should see more Android-based handsets as a result.

My guess is that 2009 will be the break-out year for Android considering that by then most of the mobile phone manufacturers should have finished wrapping up their Android-based offerings. With more and more companies joining the Open Handset Alliance, who else would you like to see join the movement?
