Despite being a lot more expensive than expected, it looks like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a certified hit in Russia.

In less than two weeks, Nokia’s first touchscreen phone has managed to sell 58,000 units with an additional 46,000 confirmed retail orders before 2008 comes to a close. With those figures, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone will easily pass the 100,000 mark within just a month of its release. That’s pretty remarkable indeed. It may not have been as cheap as earlier expected, but it’s still a lot less expensive than the other handsets in its category.

Let’s just hope that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone becomes available sooner rather than later in other parts of the globe because I’m pretty sure that the longer it takes to debut in other markets, the less chances it has in luring in customers considering that the mighty N97 is looming on the horizon.
