After the controversial Facebook posting and the public apology that ensued it, LG has now confirmed that the Optiums One and the rest of the Android phones in their Optimus series will indeed be getting an appropriate Android 2.3 update in the future. This is contrary to the Facebook status message they posted earlier this week wherein they announced that the Optimus line won't be upgraded to Gingerbread due to the supposed minium requirement of a 1GHz processor by Android 2.3 .
Here’s a direct quote of their brief new announcement:
LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue.
This finally lays to rest the issue regarding the Optimus One on whether or not it will be upgraded to Android 2.3 when the time comes. As to when the Gingerbread update will be made available for LG’s hit Android phone, we’ll just refer you to the second to the last sentence of their short press release where they state “details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course.”
So let the waiting game begin.
