In their recently concluded press conference, Apple remained firm on their stand that the iPhone 4 antenna issue is not a real issue. To prove this, they even demonstrated the same phenomenon on other popular smartphones such as the BlackBerry Bold 9700, HTC Droid Eris and Samsung Omnia 2. To view the videos of this, you can head on over here.
They further downplay the issue by saying that only a small percentage of the current stock is affected by this problem. Only 0.55% of iPhone 4 owners have reported it to AppleCare, and the return rate is very smaller as compared to the iPhone 3G S (1.7% for the iPhone 4 vs 6% for the iPhone 3G S). This, however, does not mean they won’t take any plan of action. They’ve announced they will be giving out free bumpers/cases to iPhone owners/buyers up until September 30th, and will offer a refund to those who already purchased one from Apple. More details about this will be posted on a new webpage which will go live next week.
They also addressed the proximity sensor issue which also made headlines. An iOS 4 update will be released soon to fix this problem along with the other known issues plaguing the latest iPhone. As for the white iPhone 4 which many are looking forward to, they guarantee that it will finally be available later this month.
Admittedly, this isn't exactly what we were hoping to hear from Apple regarding the whole iPhone 4 antenna fiasco, but it’s pretty much what we were expecting from them. If you’d like to view the entire press conference, you can check it out here at Apple’s website.
